major clutch problem, help needed
I've never had a clutch go out like this (maybe it's not the clutch) but here it goes.
Car was running fine until about a few weeks ago when I started hearing a sound from the tranny when the clutch was fully released. I could hear it both when it was in neutral and in gear but only with the clutch fully released. As soon as I pressed the clutch in, the noise would go away. I figured it was the front bearing on the input shaft to the transmission. The noise wasn't bothersome so I kept driving.
Yesterday, I was driving off and as soon as I shifted from 1st to 2nd and let go of the clutch, nothing happened. It was just like the clutch wasn't even there. I could shift into any gear without pressing the clutch pedal. The car came to a rolling stop and hasn't moved since.
Did I shear off the input shaft? Is the pressure plate at fault?
Any help would be appreciated, I'm totally stumped.

Btw, the clutch was not slipping at all before this happened. I've had a clutch go bad due to wear and it wasn't like this. It usually starts slipping for a while before it goes.

i bet you broke one of the springs inside the clutch ther are 4 of them on all stock clutches, and most sprung after market will use 4 or 6.
was it a clutch masters by any chance???
anyways, it happends when you abuse a stock clutch, or a sprung aftermarket. number one cause is burnouts. however, an aftermarket clutch has no buisnes toosing a spring, but clutchmasters do alot for some reason. its just a stoopid harmonic/dampening system it shouldnt fail. but when they do shortly after the clutch will fail. the spring sometimes wedges its way in between the pressuse plate and the flywheel

its on its second clutch already and it is a stock oem replacement. This used to be my boss's car so I'm not sure exactly when it was replaced. The car now has 120k miles on it and I'm assuming it was replaced around 75k or so. I do live in san francisco so it's not uncommon for a clutch to go that early. BUT, i wanna make sure that it is the clutch since I've never had a clutch go out instantly. It usually takes some time. Like I said before, it had no signs of slippage before it went out.
btw, i just bled the clutch completely so that's not it.
thanks for all the help guys.
