Default bad 02 sensor?

So i have a b16 with 2.5 inch straight piping no cat. Obd1 chipped Ecu so i only have one sensor in the headers. Lately my check engine light would turn on once in a while and my car would backfire like crazy at 4000 rpm and there would be loss of power. This only happens once in a while though. Could it be a faulty sensor?

Start with pulling and posting the CEL code(s).

When was the last tune up? What was replaced?

everytime i get the cel is when im on my way to work so i never really have time to pull over and check. But it had the oil, spark plugs and spark plug wires changed roughly 3 months ago. Also new coolant.

Drive around until the CEL turns on and then pull over and jump the service connector with the engine still running.
