I have the stock D15B8 in my beater car. The CEL NEVER comes on no matter what I do. The car is running like crap right now and there's a lean misfire/backfire so I know something is wrong. I don't want to go and just start replacing crap not knowing what will fix the problem. I plug it into the scanner and it doesn't display any codes. I unscrew the map sensor and let it hang freely while the car is running, no check engine light. I pull a plug wire, disconnect the O2 sensor, and start disconnecting other sensors while the car is running and still no CEL. I put a P75 ECU in and the car runs a much better and the CEL comes on displaying codes on the scanner for O2 sensor/knock sensor.

Is my ECU bad? Am I just an idiot?

Motorswap is sittin in my garage but can't go in until September so I wanna fix this stock motor to pass emissions next month.

 

you could be an idiot.....who isnt tho? but, that's probably not it.

Maybe open up your D15 ecu (P05) and see if its been reprogrammed.

 

It hasn't been reprogrammed. It's the stock motor and I bought the car from the original owner who is my good friend.

Already have motor/trans/one axle/ECU. Need halfshaft, one axle, and a rear tranny mount.

Does the CEL come on briefly when you start the car? It should.

If not, is the bulb good? You could check the harness too by disconnecting the ECU and running a wire from the CEL pin to the + pole of the battery. If you do that, the light should light.
