I know people have done this before. Especially those going for the sleeper look and paint all the piping and Intercooler Black.
Are there any write ups or final pictures on this?...
I know painting the fmic is Okay as long as you dont overspray the fins. but what paint is recommended for this?
Also the hotside of my turbo housing and Manifold looks rusted, Is it safe to repaint that? (with some high-temp paint)

black ceramic coating. no paint is going to live long on the manifold or downpipe

 

This right here. Most painted setups look alright at first and then a bit after they look like crap. I wouldn't bother unless you get quality coatings or good grade anodizing.

 

I would powdercoat it black ( if that wont interupt airflow ). I painted mine black and yeah, its def chippin everywere. looks terrible, I will be flipping it back this evening!

 

powder can't handle the heat either. you have to use high temp coatings like jet hot, ceramic etc. there are often local places in all major cities that do this and in a variety of colors. for example, mine are getting done in titanium

The intercooler can be fully anodized to work, and not chip if its the right kind.








These are all high heat ceramic coatings that take over 1600 degrees. No rattle can do this as well. (If VHT were applied correctly, it'd come close but still not last as long.)

Ok so, It seems like taking it to a shop is the ideal choice... or using high-temp ceramic paint

 

take it to a shop. that does high heat coatings. night and day difference between that and the can.

 

Or send the items to one that does it on a regular basis. Not all shops have availability for it and can do a quality job

 

I feel like painting an intercooler will lower its efficiency.

 

Radiator paint is what I used for this very reason. I had to special order the stuff, but I run a small to mid sized FMIC and my IAT's never get too hot, and I've ran this on a road course for about 3-4 straight hard laps with 20psi on a mitsubishi 16g turbo. I let it cool down after that many laps because my coolant temps were coming up.
