My CV boot tore!!!!!!!!
my CV boot tore in my 94 ls integra. my question is how much would it be to replace. would it be better to just replace teh axle too? i am plannin on rebuildiny my engine in about 3-5 months. what do u guys suggest i do?? ps. how the hell do i get that green grease off my white rims... i tried everythign??
the boot aint nothing expensive but labor is a bitch. mine is starting to open kind of. I went to discount tire and they quoted me 180 to replace one cv boot plus labor. **** that
the boots themselves are aroundn 25per side , that is if you are refering to the outside boot. This is a price per acura so its OE stuff. However, i have just finished replacing some driveshafts and CV joints in class on a 90 civic. Not a ton of work but it is involved.
If they have been tore for any length of time im afraid you ae going to need the CV joint replaed because the joint has been contaiminated to road condtions and dirt and particales have gotten into the joints. You can reboot and repack with grease and this will work for a while, but not a solution to the problem, just a temp. fix. Good luck.

I had a shop replace my CV Boot. Prices:
Boot itself - $20
Labor - $45
TOTAL - $65
I thought it would be more than that.

if the labor was $45 im assuming thats no more then an hour if that. And for the price of those boots i am also going to assume that they were 2 piece boots. Having just replaced boots in class and seeing the man hours involved it isn't that quick by ANY means. But i was replacing with 1 piece OE style boot.
another concern to check out: See what the replacement boot is attaced to the outer part (closest to the brake assembly) of the CV joint with? If a metal boot clamp os used, see if the place where the metal is joined is flat or not, if it is raised at all, or very little there is a great chance that you are looking at a universal boot clamp is used and this is not a correct piece because of interferance with the lower ball joint. Also see if its a 2 piece while you are under the car...this is an inferior piece as well.
Im telling you this because it can be safety issue when the bearig grease were to fling out onto the brake assembly things might not be pretty.
check it out!!
