Default B16A2 Timing Belt Question

Hey Everyone,

I'm getting back into the game and totally forgot a lot of the stuff I used to know cold back in 2006! Here goes, I recently purchased a rebuild B16A2 long block for a killer deal. The shop said they would set the timing for me. I have to supply a water pump, spring, tensioner, timing belt, covers and the timing belt gear that goes on the crank, just behind the plastic cover (guide plate).

Here's my question: I'm looking through my Helms and my bin of old parts and see a "timing belt drive pulley" and "timing belt guide plate". I think this part was used on my 2000 Si (B16A2) but I can't remember!! I'm looking at the Helms illustration and it doesn't look like the part I have. The Helms has been known to have errors, but I'm totally lost here. I'll post a picture of the Helms page and the timing belt drive pulley and timing belt guide plate. Are these the correct parts for my B16A2?

Thanks!

You do have the OBDII style crank shaft sprocket for the B16A. That style is designed to work with the crank position sensor

Okay, so you're saying that does go with my B16A2?

I guess I don't understand why the picture would be showing the sprocket on backwards if the timing marks are the way I took the photo?

So then I should use # 13 and 12 in the direction the picture has it?

#'s 12 and 13 are for your gen of engine. The sprocket is not on backwards. That is how the sensor reads the angle of the crank

If I follow the picture you posted, I'll put the gear on that way BUT why is there a mark to line it up with the oil pump mark that wouldn't be facing me. It's hard to explain what I mean.

It looks like it depends on which sensor you are using. If it has a small sensor like the D16, the large teeth go facing outward.

If you have the long sensor with bracket, the large teeth are on the inside like the B18.

This probably explains why there are markings on the wrong side since this part might be used on both types of installs.

Good point, I just looked up the 00 Si CFK sensor (37500-P72-A01) and mounting bracket (14535-P72-A00) its the same parts numbers as the GSR and Type R (I used the year 2000 because it's OBD2 and the same as my 2000 Si). I'm leaning more towards an error on the diagram for the Honda, but I need someone to verify this. I really don't want to install it one way the get a CEL for the CFK sensor and have to remove the crank pulley bolt, pulley and key if I could avoid it.

Thanks for the added input, I'm sure someone has to know.

If it's the sensor has the same part number as the GSR/ITR, then it must be positioned as my second picture shows. From the exploded diagram, this is definitely how it should be installed...

I just noticed something else that will put your mind at ease. The picture here is a generic "civic" crankshaft picture. You can tell by the dished piston that this is just an image of d-series parts being used to describe the B-series stuff.
