Default issues with swap.. help please?

So a friend of mine blew his motor. He has a 1996 honda accord 2.2 auto with the f22b2 motor. I did a motor swap for him except the motor that he bought was an f22b.

It didn't come with a crank sensor so i pulled the timing covers off to install one, but there's no spot for it.
From what i understand the b uses a crank sensor in the dizzy..

so when i go to start the car, it cranks, but won't fire. the dizzy i used is from his b2.

Can anyone help me to figure out what i must swap/ do to make this car run, please?

Thanks a ton!

you are going to need a crank sensor so you got 2 options. figure out some way to get it on the crank, or use the other dizzy and bypass the plug to the signal coming from the distributor crank sensor.

its a very common bypass trick dont on civics and integras.

The Non VTEC JDM F22B = F22B2, difference is that the JDM F22b is OBD1 and has the TDC and CKP sensor in the distributor. USDM OBD2 F22B2 have the 2 sensors mounted to the oil pump housing. This is a very well documented issue.

Wire the TDC and CKP using the F22B distributor or you could swap the OBD2 oil pump housing, and both crank gears (timing and balance) Without these tow gears the sensors will not work ether.

Can you provide me with info on the dizzy rewire? And can i still use the stock harness? Swapping the oil pump and gears seems way harder and time consuming.i need a quicker fix.
Thanks

Yeah that oil pump and gear swap is best to be done prior to dropping the engine in.

Give me a bit I think I had a wiring diagram for the OBD2 to OBD1 TDC & CKP sensor swap.

that's awesome. thanks man. i CAN do the gear swap and w/e. but I would rather an easy solution..

would rewiring the dizzy allow the ecu to "read" a crank sensor some how?? how would that work?

As long as it is an OBD1 F22B distributor equiped with TDC/CKP/CYP sensors. AFAIK The CKP sensor that is in the OBD1 distributor sends out the same signal as the CKP sensor that is located on the oil pump housing of the OBD2 F22B2.

IIRC the OBD1 distributor should have 4 extra wires.....2 for each of the sensors.

Honestly. myself, I would by a new 4/6/8 pin weather proof connector, that has both sides and new pins and solder in the new connector. However you may be able to get an OBD1 connector from the junk yard that will fit easy enough.

Here is the wiring, even though it says F22B1 the wire descriptions/colours are the same for the F22B2.

The CKP and TDC wire harness (WHT - BLU & GRN - RED) should be part of the original engine harness. They would be found over on the cam gear side of the engine. The wires will be more than long enough to reach the distributor. You will need to unwrap the wire loom and pull the 4 wires out. Then wrap it back up.

You Need the OBD1 distributor with the three sensors inside it. So that should be the F22B.

That ia because the OBD1 distributor has an internal coil and the F22B2 OBD2 has an external coil. You will have to swap to an internal coil as well. Sorry forgot to mention that I assumed that you already had that done. If you can get your hands on an OBD1 H23 distributor I think that has the internal sensors and it is an external coil so you won't have to convert to internal. However you will still have to do the sensor swap.

There has to be info on this swap in a DIY or swap thread already.

sorry guys, I know this is an old thread and a common problem, but I have already re-wired CKP and TDC sensors on my "97 EX (went from F22B1 VTEC to JDM F22B VTEC) and I still can not get it to start.... I don't think my fuel system is pressurizing either... I feel like a huge noob, but my mechanic can't be bothered to help, and my car has already been down 3 weeks while I did the swap myself...
