Default How to differentiate between a b16 / itr

I might be picking up a itr tranny and besides from the obvious like the stock itr LSD how would u tell the difference between the two? Would u need to open it and look at the inside? If u do need to look at the inside what are u supposed to look for once it's open? I don't wanna put in 800-1000 dollars in for a b16/gsr tranny and think it's an itr lol

Aside from opening it up and counting teeth, there is no absolute way of knowing.

Not off the top of my head, but I'm sure someone else will chime in with exactly how many teeth and how to calculate it.

internally a B16 is the same ratios as a USDM ITR. They're actually the same part numbers too. GSR ratios are a little different you have a longer 2-5 gears but same 4.4 final.

But they should be stamped on the bar code (by the torque mount) the trans code. Also, it won't have an LSD equipped.

S4C are usdm SI B16 trans
S80 are ITR
Y80 is GSR

But, just making sure you know how to spot the LSD, just look through the axle holes. If you see hollow tube it's got an LSD, if you see a bar in the middle of it you have an open diff.

If you can open up the box and count the teeth. You count teeth on one gear, divide by the other and that gives the ratio. Make reference to a table that you can search up showing gear ratios.

I guess I should probably ask, what is the person "claiming" this trans to be? USDM? JDM?

USDM GSR trans is stamped Y80 and S80, the LS is also stamped S80

I'm honestly getting tired of posting this stuff. It's all readily available info guys. Do 5 seconds of research before you make a thread.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=b+series+transmission+specs should be the standard response to threads like this.
