Yea I spoke to them at PRI 2 years back and I suggested it, as I'm sure many have. But they'd have to eat the cost to go have one destroyed and they didn't really like that idea. At least that's what I was told. It would be a great idea though that's for sure.

But they don't need to be based on the rules, just built to the proper specs and materials.

It doesn't have to be. No sanctioning body so no set rules.

nhra / ihra tracks 11.50 or faster you have to have sfi bell housing or scatter shield
the liberty is not sfi
it not to keep the oil in it's to keep the clutch & flywheel in and they have to be sfi

front wheel drive cars just need "a shield made of 1/4 -inch- minimum-thickness
steel plate is permitted". (2011 nhra rulebook)

What class? I'm sure hoping you don't need one for sfwd... If so I have to add one to my daily and add another to the car I'm building now =-(

This is only in competition right? I mean my beater runs faster than that and it doesn't have any safety equipment at all.

But I did re-read the other post. Just need a steel plate. That's not too bad. I'd rather not have it but I guess we'll see.

You wouldn't get away with that at big time tracks.

I can usually get a few runs in with my beater. But my beater runs low 10's. What I usually do is shut it down at the 1/8 so I don't break out. But on the last run or so I go all out and then I can't run any more. But on my eg hatch I just have a 8 point cage, fuel cell/lines and racing gear and they don't seem to mind me running well into the 9's.
