Ok heres the deal i have a gsr swapped del sol running a p28 intake and headers. It seems to run pretty good and hits vtec hard but it feels like it has no power untill it hits vtec. and sometimes at idle the car will die. for example on how slow it seems. my buddy with a mini me hatch beat me by abt a fender he has intake headers full exhaust any ideas what might be causing this ?

 

Not enough info here. Any CELs? What other problems?

you just said you were running a p28, is it chipped and tuned? if your running a stock p28 thats your problem... a stock p28 would make a GSR run kinda shitty

If he was and did not hook up the butterflies correctly. He could be on the long side of the intake thus making torque and killing his top end. (although you would have to keep the flapper back by wire or something to do this.)
What I mean by hooking up the butterflies, keep them on the short side instead of the long side.
You should also check your timing. Leak down test too, to see if the motor is hurt.

 

O sh*t i meant to say p72 lol my fault!. yes it is throwing a cel but autozone said they wont cant check any cars that were made before 95. And about the butterflys. i have vtec and it hits hard but i dont have any power before vtec.

 

I think the reason you have no power is because of the Butterflies. If you do not wire them, they are on the short runners, making horsepower and not torque. That's why it is a dog out of VTEC. That's my thinking.
Why can't you check your own code?

++++++I'm guessing you didn't wire the knock sensor either which is pulling a lot of timing out of the motor. No POWER.

yeah you will have no ***** down low if you have the secondaries wide open they need to be wired up. pull your codes and start from there If your throwing a code you might be running in limp mode and thats why your buddy beat you cuz your fuel maps are pretty much cut in half to protect your motor from damaging itself. So pull the codes and get back to us. you need to jump the plug on the passanger side kick panel.

ok i checked my codes and this is what its showing
7-throttle position sensor
23-Knock sensor
41-Primary oxygen sensor heater

 

Does this mean i need to replace the knock and tps? is there a way to clean them? any help would be greatly appreciated

 

ok so i just unplugged the knock and took it down the road and i acually had some power too it. why is this? and is it bad to run with it unplugged

 

its bad to run it unplugged when you dont have it disabiled with a chipped ecu. I would be more concerned that he didnt wire up the knock sensor and get the oxygen sensor hooked up it will run like **** with that unpluged. until you get it fixed I wouldnt run anything below 92 octane.

knock sensor is "C3" make sure you have a wire in that slot if not he didnt wire it up. Also check the TPS at "C13" just to be sure the wiring is not fvcked

 

i just looked and there is NOT a wire in that pin spot so how do i go about wiring this??

 

you need to have a donor car or go to the wrecking yard and cut one of the plugs and pull the pin out and put it in that spot and run it to the knock. or go get it tuned and have the knock sensor disabled. up to you

thanks alot! i wired up the knock and fixed the tps and the car seems to really run better, now the only code im throwing is
41-Primary oxygen sensor heater
the only problem with that is i dont have a spot on my headers for an o2 sensor and idk where the connector is to even plug one into? the only free connector i can find in my engine bay is back near the tps

 

No problem man I'm glad to hear that. the oxygen sensor plug on the civics is on the front by the temperature sensor. but if the person that did the swap used the gsr harness its gonna be near your mid shaft on the rear of the engine.
