Valves louder after valve adjustment
My buddy got his type R head torn apart and cleaned at a shop but they did not adjust the valves. I adjusted the valves before we got it started to .007 for both intake and exhaust because the haynes repair manual said .006-.007 for intake and .007 and .008 for exhaust. So I took the happy medium and set them all to .007. We got it started up but the valve tick was louder than when he got it. So we waited 2 days to tear the head apart because we also had to retorque the ARP head studs. I rechecked every valve but this time adjusting the intakes to .006 and exhaust to .008. I double checked clearances on every one and double checked tightness of the adjuster nut. We fired her up and it's louder than before.
Now, I did notice some writing on the ends of the cams. I don't know if stock ITR cams come with them or if it's a regrind and they added them. It seemed the higher pitched valve tick went away but now there's a lower pitched valve tick if that makes any sense... My buddy couldn't hear the tick while he was driving before but now he definitely can. and at Idle, it'll act like a valve is stuck open when the muffler will suck in for a sec. Any ideas??? thanks

bone cold for valve adjustments = no problems... make sure the feeler gauges are in good shape as well... are you following the firing order 1-3-4-2 and measuring between rocker and cam lobe?
Any stock cam motor should have the lash adjusted at 0.006" intake and 0.007" exhaust.
yes, I was measuring between the rocker and the cam lobe.. I've done this with many D series before but this is my first B series valve adjustment. maybe the motor was just still too warm. I'm pretty sure I went in that order. does it really matter what order you do it in as long as the lobe isn't depressing the valve??
when he gets back from drill we're going to try it again at 0.006" intake and 0.007" exhaust.
