Yes you'll need a 2.5" outlet cat/B-pipe. Unless you remove your cat and just run a test pipe (you won't pass emissions).

Size is not a factor on your stock ITR. ALL ITR's in japan come factory with the 2.5" exhaust manifold and pipe to the muffler. It's just slightly bigger than your stock USDM 2.25" exhaust.

It won't sound raspy rite because that's what I'm trying to avoid I'm trying to gain power and maintain sound quality

If you have a 96 JDM ITR, your collector and cat are already 2.5". No need to change anything. Just bolt on the 98-spec header.

If you have a US ITR, then you will need a larger exhaust system including the cat.

As for sound, removing the cat is like removing a muffler. Things do get louder. I have a JDM (short) 2.5" cat, a 2.5" b pipe with long resonator, and a short 18" straight through muffler (2.5" in and 4" out) with no silencer in it. I recently got a ticket for being too loud. Sounds really nice though. I put the silencer back in and it sounds a bit more whiny in VTEC, but a little quieter overall. I don't have a 98-spec header though, I have the RMF Narrow replica header.

I have ws2 axle back exhaust and I'm going to use 98 spec headers so my question is if 2.5 straight pipe is good (good tone not raspy) or will I need a resonator and how big
