how do you replace the idle control valve on an 05 element
hey everyone i followed a link and i found this place. seems pretty cool so i thought i would ask my question here.
just as my title reads. how do i replace the idle control valve on an 05 Element?
a lil background history on it. awhile back i got out of the car to go to the market. when i got back in it wouldn't fire up. it would just crank and crank. frustrated and not knowing i just sat in the car waiting and wondering. after 15mins it fired right up. like if nothing happened.
well it happened a couple of more times thru out the month. i noticed though when it cranks and i press on the gas it would start up but then die if i took my foot off the gas.
i mentioned it to a guy at work and he looked at it pulled the main fuse to see if it would reset itself. nope. then he tapped on the valve and it fired right up. it's happened again and i tapped on the valve and it fires up. to bad the guy from work moved out of state.
i want to fix the problem though. i'm very mechanically inclined but have never replaced one. it looks like unplug the wires and a few screw and off it comes. the dealer wants $350 the part is $100. so i figured i could do it.
anyone done one yet? does this sound about right?
thanx and sorry for the long post

In my 02 CR-V, which also uses the K24, I found it easiest to pull the throttle body off and flip it over to do the install. The messiest part was unplugging the two coolant lines that connect to the IACV and plugging them. With a little patience and common-sense, it is a pretty manual-free affair pulling the intake, unplugging the connectors, and cracking the bolts for the throttle body loose. Removing the air-box cover bolts gives you some wiggle-room to get the duct off and I left throttle drum and cables attached. The actual bolts attaching the IACV were seized and I split the old valve getting them out. The heads rounded so it was left to vice grips to get them out. My biggest concern was shearing them at the throttle body, fortunately, this never occurred. After install keep an eye on your coollant as some air will be introduced. Top-off for the first few drives as needed.
thanx for the reply. i'm gonna look it over this weekend and possibly attack it over the holiday weekend.
did you have to replace a gasket for the throttle body? i just wanna make sure i have everything thing i need (parts wise).
thanx again
