1990 da w/ 95 ls swap (how to do timing)
i need help with doing timing. putting the timing belt on. it is completely off. i dont know how to align anything. can anyone help me? its a 1995 ls motor. or is there anything written out. cant find anything.. thank you
You will basically need to align the crankshaft, and the camshafts
If you have stock camshafts, each camshaft timing gear should have an arrow or a tick etched into it. The main idea is to align both ticks facing upwards (perpendicular to the engine), and parallel to eachother.
The crankshaft also has ticks on it. When I did mine, it had 3 or 4 ticks, and a 25% chance of getting it right is plenty for me
A couple of points to keep in mind:
1.Take your time to do it right. If it doesn't align, re do it.
2.My manual said to follow thiis order when puting the timing belt on:
.....Crankshaft, tensioner, water pump, exhaust camshaft, intake camshaft.
3.Hand crank the engine 4 full turns before attempting to start it, to ensure smoothness and no valve-piston contact.
Here is a complete write-up:
