EP3 shaking at 40mph and above
I have a friend with a 04 SI. He says that his steering shakes when he turns and drive at speeds above 40 mph. What could be causing this? Would a bad axle cause this to happen? Thanks!
It could be lots of things.. is the suspension modified? Does it need an alignment? Are the tires balanced correctly?
Axles usually click when turning and that's how you know they are bad.

Get under the car and start inspecting stuff visually. Also you can jack the car up and by shaking the wheel side to side or up and down you can check for ball joint and tie rod end play.

Slightly off balanced wheels can cause a bad shake if in combination with worn struts. Check his struts as well (push down on car hard; it should come back to regular height without oscillation).
thanks for all the suggestions. i will let him know all these so he can check it all out. he did try to get an alignment but the shop told him to fix the axles. im not sure if its the axle cause there are no sound when turning etc.
