Did you rotate the crank clockwise by any chance? Even a decently tight belt with good tension can do that if you turn the crank clockwise.

You can always retension it and see what happens. It won't hurt anything. Checking to make sure it's timed currently (not off a tooth) is simple, line up the cam gears then see what the crank pulley shows.

Yea that's a lot of slack.

Loosen the tensioner and rotate the engine counter clock wise until the slack is on the tensioner side push then tensioner up and tighten rotate clock wise and check your slack.

I don't think I've turned it clock wise...

Asian.thought its only ounter clockwise u turn?

Is retentioning somthin I can do thru the hole on the timing belt cover..loosen it from there?
Or do I have to remove the whole crank pulley?
I've turned it many times and it looks to be good on the timing marks lining up.

the way i always tension my timing belt which hasnt failed me yet (any please bare with the explanation its kinda hard to explain)

first obviously line up all the timing marks (duh)
then i take the belt, put it on the bottom pulley,
get it tight as possible over the cams, and leave all the slack on the water pump and tensioner (since they dont need to line up for timing),
then i usually have someone with me to push on the tensioner w/ a rubber hammer as i tighten the bolt to 40 ft-lbs.

if u get all the slack on the water pump and tensioner then u dont have to worry about moving the timing marks

works for me

Way I've always installed is rotating clockwise then to remove slack counter a 1/8 turn. And yes you can tighten through the timing cover. Rotating counter moves any slack between the cans and the crank to the tensioner. How I've done every timing belt never had q problem.

See.that's how I've done a couuople timing belts.but. its been couple years back, but this time, don't know why but I read the repai manual just to see if I was missing anything.and it said to start at crank sprocket to water pump to exaust cam then intake cam....so I did it that way,I thought it was weird..
Guess ill try it out by loosening it thru the hole and if that don't work ill take crank pulley of again.

Thanks for responses.ill chec back after I try it out
