ATTN: people who are rebuilding GSRs / Hate CTR Pistons
I figured with all the hype, hate and controversy over CTR pistons and how they can never work.......i'd go ahead and post a combo with results on them working.
Basic rundown
81X87mm setup
CTR pistons on GSR Rods - Gsr Crank
GSR Head - Portflow standard work
Supertech Valvetrain / Blox Type C cams(Jun 3's)
SMSP B19 Header / Custom 3 inch Exhaust
PerformerX intake manifold w/ 68mm TB
440cc Injectors on 93 Octane
This combo was clayed and degree'd in....with tons of room.

This setup was just completed this week and this is the dyno chart from its break-in tune. The Blue and Red lines illustrate 2 random intake pipes i found in the shop....one being almost a normal shortram style(Blue) and the other being a about 4-5 inches longer(Red). We spent most of the time on the dyno just cycling the car through the RPM's and making sure the a/f's were all gravy. Theres roughly about 2-3 degrees more timing that can be thrown in around the midrange, which should help me clean that up a bit. With proper intake lenthening, cam gear loving and other random tweaks i'll find the powerband that im looking for.
On 93 octane with final tuning on this combo untouched i project an easy 235whp and 155wtq. We will be doing e85 on this car soon as well, i project breaking over 240whp when its done. Further manifold development might net us a few more....but only time will well. Maybe i'll get a bisi header and make 22whp.

NICE #'s!!! should be a fun setup you have there.
i'll rock CTR's anyday..
ive had them and know of MANY other setups using CTRs that ran in the 11's N/A not just high 11's either.. 11.3 11.4 etc. in street car chassis.
someone will always have something negative to say about any setup you do or want to do. Especially if its a budget build..

So did you open the valve reliefs up a bit more? It was either you (Mikey) or someone else on here a while back that was talking about doing that for more clearance.
Props for making power with that setup. Regardless I still am not a fan of ctr pistons in a gsr. The pistons are to damn heavy.
I'm in for hearing more opinions.

what dose Don.F (ALL M0T0R) sale man gotta say about this build?
nice build and thanks for showing h-t that it can be done.
that almost the same set up as my buddy's old build.

**** its been done. I'm doing it right now. Lol. I even had AllM0T0R make me a set of his new cams for it. Its going to the dyno in a couple weeks to be tuned. I can definitly say I dont like the ctr pistons in a gsr because I'm dealing with it right now. Lol
Mikey,
Great build, excellent power. I would caution against one thing, the cams. My intake cam broke on me with approximately, 5 months on them. They make great power, but I consider them a roll of the dice.

I think just about everyone will agree that when ever a copy of anything is made the original will always be better. Unless the original was crap to begin with, in which case there would be no reason to make a copy. Lol
yea with no prove of gain. that why the thread got locked. hype is all it is
It was done right, unlike 90% of the ctr gsr builds on here.
My thread was solo directed towards the vast majority of people who slap pistons in, and don't measure, don't clay, and don't spec out the motor.
Mikey failed to mention, they aren't stock pistons, he shaved the top of the domes down, which is the majority of the clearance issue there.
CTR pistons have been proven to be a horrible designed piston, do they work? Of course, anything can work when done properly.
Are they a ideal piston setup?? No..
They are the heaviest OEM piston, they also distort the flame front pretty awfully too, but i mean, who cares?
Lets have some rookie, read a thread where you say its ok to put ctr pistons in a gsr, and he has a b18c1, and he wants to rebuild it.. he'll throw the pistons in, not thinking anything, running without a tune and not claying the motor... and he WILL hit the head.
Point blank... just because you do it, doesn't mean its "right".
Hype??
That's why, 00red_Si bought a set, tonio, and 1998gsrintegra?
How about the other 10 people who just bought a set in the LAST WEEK??
Cams hype?? They are soloy based upon a already proven system, that was taken, and made better.
What do i gotta say about it?
