How GOOD is Maaco?
Friend just broke one of his Compressors so he can't paint my car anymore, so i gotta go to someone else. How good is Maaco? Has anyone gone to Maaco for a paint/body repair job? Lemme know!

My last Maaco paint job lasted 15 years without issue, when I sold the car. No chipping, no fading, no clear hazing, nothing wrong at all.
But I also spoke with the painters, not just the desk jockey, tipped in advance, and removed lamps and mirrors before taking it in to them. Even then, I still had to remove some overspray from the glass, tires, etc...
Maaco isn't known for the quality work they do. There tends to be a lot of fisheyes in there paint with molding getting painted due to bad masking. They also will paint right over bad paint like crows feet etc. With all that said if your cars worth 2,000 why spend 3,500 getting it painted. If you do the prep work and possibly remove molding you should do it. But they don't take care of your car like a regular body shop would. Once one comes out one goes in.

And I agree that maaco jobs can be good. Just depends on which shop you take it to, how well they prep it, how well they tape off areas, etc...
But I paid $250 for the paint job, which included minor filling on some hood dents and specified 3 coats of paint (base, base clear mixed 50/50, clear), and tipped $50. I'm also honestly surprised it lasted that well.
Part of the quality of the job was probably due to the specific car too. It's not every day Maaco gets to paint a classic...
I've also heard plenty of horror stories from Maaco too. Consistency doesn't seem to be their strong point...
buddy use to work for maaco , he hated it
told me they do such a shitty job in prep thats why there prices are so low
If your car has a shitty prep job the paint job will look like crap thats all thread over

I took my car in completely prepped and clean, still turned out shitty. Small pits all in the paint. Got what I paid for ($440). Next time I'll fck it up myself.
A friend of mine did the prep work and it turned out nicely and has lasted for the last 3 years. Of course each shop is different. And another took it straight to them and they painted over the mudflaps. I couldn't believe they didn't take them off!
My brother took his del sol in for their "presidential" paint job. It was anything but that. In certain areas the paint had a corrosive feeling like a finer grit sandpaper. 2 years and it started to flake and easily chip. Probably best to have your friend do it if he knows what he's doing. I personally wouldn't take anything of mine there after his experience.
