Default Car will not shift into park

Hey guys I bought my car last year and I cannot get it to go into park. I have to put it in neutral and use the e brake every time I park it. I did a ton of body work and other mechanical on it and didn't get it on the road until late last summer so I just drove it and dealt with it. Now I am about to put it back on the road for the summer and I want to figure it out before it does.

It's a '93 Civic Si. I just checked with Honda and it does have an open recall for the adjuster pin but would that be the cause? The person I spoke with apparently doesn't have a clue about the recall or if it would be the problem. Or would it just the cable itself? Any info would be great.

Thanks

Are you able to remove the key from the ignition with the transmission in neutral?

Do your brake lights work?

I didn't know that 92-95 Si came with an automatic transmission. I mean if it's a 5 speed you can't put it into park just neutral and put the e-brake.

I have set the shift indicator switch to park so I was able to get the keys out. Yes my brake lights work.

Does pushing the key into the release slot allow you to shift into park?

Canadian Si coupes could be had as an automatic, the Si hatches were all 5 speeds though.

Well I just made my problem worse

I was fighting with the shifter and managed to get it into park but when I tried to get it back out it wouldn't so I put the key in the shifter lock and it came out. It then would go from park into reverse and back no problem but then it wouldn't go past reverse. My husband pulled the lever back and it finally came out of reverse and moves into any gear freely. Problem is it is now stuck in reverse no matter what position the shifter is in. I am about ready to blow this car up.

I didn't know that, but I had this problem on my 94 integra and it ended up being the linkage.

Can anyone tell me what year range or models have the same shifter cable as my '93 civic si coupe?

'92 - '95 Civic, all models with automatic transmission. If you do end up needing one I'm pretty sure I have a used one hanging on the wall I'd sell cheap.

Hey guys I just wanted to thank you for your help and also give you an update. I replaced the shifter cable and it works great. For the first time since I bought the car I can put it into every gear.

Thanks again to 94EG8 for helping me out with the cable.
