Default **b16a2 mild build questions (noob) kinda**

ok so i have a b16a2 in my 91 hatch, and over the summer, i am wanting to do somewhat of a mild build. Just some background info to fill some peoples in.
I am 18. had my 91 hatch for 2 years and doing a FUN build with my motor over the summer. and i am doing this all myself with help of advice.

I am going to throw some parts that i have in mind out there. (and i dont want any "Thats only for drag applications!" or "Just Boost it" or anything along of that nature.

here is what i was thinking.
TODA vtec killer cams and entire valve train
Skunk2 intake manifold
PWJDM "whale *****" intake
and tuned for launch control. (dont know much about tunes and ecu programs)

also thinking about doing a poor man type r.

so can anyone give me any input or any other parts.

I am looking to seek about 190, 195 from this B16A2.
thanks, and keep smart comments to PM's

Do more research. There are much better cams and intakes out there than the ones you listed.

Good luck getting into the 190s on a b16 with a mild build. You might hit 190bhp but not whp

I'm just going to throw this out there, now a days the vtec killer camshafts are total **** compared to some cams on the market today. AllM0t0r custom makes cams for around $5xx. He will custom design them for your motor, so they are not just some off the shelf product. I'd be willing to bet that even skunk2 pro1's would out perform the vtec killers. The vtec killers are also crap below about 5000rpm. They don't make power until higher in the rev range, they are also horrible for daily driving.

My opinion would be skunk2 pro1's(or talk with AllM0t0r about cams) with the valve train and adjustable cam gears to go along with them. An edlebrock performer x intake manifold. 68mm throttle body. Have an intake pipe custom made for the motor. Get it dyno tuned properly. Thats a short watered down list compared to the big picture, just a different direction to consider.

As far as 190whp goes...well your not going to achieve it with a mild build.

i see what your saying. i like VTEC killers but i have looked at others as well.
i like the idea of the pro1's. I have looked at those, and i think the price is very decent. i was wanting to do a built head, maybe CTR pistons and cranks. but that will be down the road, i am just getting opinions and first hand accounts on some of these products.

what is the stock size of a b16 TB??

ah ok. just wanted to see the size differences of the TB.
im sure i can get a 68mm TB like stated above from companies like BLOX and Skunk2 right?

also if a tune is needed dont i need a different map sensor, like a 3 or (4 bar) map sensor??

Pick up and omni power or professional products throttle body. Same quality, but your just not paying for the name like you would with a skunk2. I swear by professional products based on previous experience. If you end up looking for used, stay away from older skunk2 pieces, the screws were known to back out of the butterfly valve and make their way into the engine.

Unless you go turbo you do not need to change out your map sensor. Stock is perfectly fine.

VTEC killer cams...not a good idea at all. perhaps we can get into the reasons why they are a bad idea later. skunk2 intake manifold is a good idea, but you can find a type-r intake manifold and save some money. That intake is over-priced for the performance. stick with a 3-inch tube and a decent filter. I personally liked the comptech icebox.

On another note, your original post seems to be eluding to two different questions. One, what "mild" parts are you looking for and what your goals are to achieve this "mild" build. Two, if you are even looking at Toda VTEC killer cams and wanting that amount of power out of a b16, it is an entirely different story. This would not be a "mild" build.

From personal experience, I would think it wise to say that a "mild build" would consist of your basic bolt-on parts, i.e. a decent header, good exhaust and intake, a pair of mild cams such as skunk2 stage 1's or Blox A's, the necessary head work, and at least a v-afc tune.

Your latter power goals would require a more work and can become a bit complicated. You are still young and I would suggest starting small.

Can't use a CTR crank in b16a2 block
Drop CTR pistons in your b16 it'll raise compression to like 11:4 or something of that sort
Of just do what imma do build the head
Then get a gsr block, itr crank/rods/pistons

I just picked up some blox Hsl cams
& supertech high compression valves/titantium retainers/ dual titanium valve springs

Same route I'm going if I ever make it out to LA to pick up my friken C1 block lol. Anyone know what CTR pistons and CTR cams would bump the power to in a b16a2?

From the sound of your "build", I'd say "Good Luck." You need to do a lot more research and learning before you attempt this.

With the money you'd spend on those, you could port the head and get a good set of cams/valvetrain

Start reading. You're not going to learn any younger.

Yeah, sure.....See my comment on tuning solutions. It applies here.

Good Luck. Takes a lot of work & knowledge to get there from a 1.6L, if you're talking about WHP. Omniman's video about his 200 WHP build for a customer is very informative.

If everyone kept their "smart comments" to PMs, I doubt it would make the desired impact on the amount of Stupid questions
