JDM itr into 00 ex. needs to pass emissions
Hey guys I am ready to order a motor, and looking to buy a JDM 98+ spec b18c(r) from hmotors. After talking to the owner for a while i need some help and advice.
I live in arizona and need to be able to pass emissions. this is my first swap and will be selling my 05 tsx to help put money back into my account after the swap is done, but i need my swapped civic to pass emissions first. so here are my questions and concerns and any answers or replies will be greatly appreciated!
im thinking jdm ecu is a no go due to us scanners not able to read jdm ecu's. if it does work please let me know.
so if i were to run a usdm ecu, what should i use? i know i need a b-series oil pump for the CKF, and a usdm vtec soloniod. how do i get evap sensor? one guy said i need a chipped ecu. ive searched some but usually find general information, and since im doing this swap myself, i need more specifics if im going to shell out 5 grand for a motor.
or would it just be better to find a usdm gsr to throw into it?
again, any info, advice, or answers are very much appreciated!

thank you for the quick reply. i posted on another site a week ago and have no responses lol. i really would like the jdm itr motor, so if i had more info i am willing to do the extra work for the fact that im building a jdm civic. i have jdm ctr headlight, foglights, grill, front lip, and fenders with sidemarkers. i also just found and purchased an si rear lip (i know its not jdm but it looks sexy imo). i also have full skunk2 suspension(struts, springs, camber kits). and after i decide on a motor im doing a ctr 5 lug conversion and gunna try to get some ctr wheels. and then im re-doing the interior.
so i would really like a jdm itr motor to compliment everything else, as i do not really want to build or boost at this point, just have a sweet jdm civic that has decent power and looks sexy for a daily. i plan on starting school and looking for a job after the summer, i just moved to AZ not too long ago, so i have the time and money saved up to finally do what i want to my civic, after owning it for almost 5 years.
on that note, do you know of any sites or places that sell usdm motors? i have had no luck in finding any near me. the only site i found was jaydm.com and tried to call but the line is disconnected i think they are no longer in business.
thanks again for any responses.

I understand the need in wanting to complete the set as it were. I don't know what inspections in AZ entail anymore or how comprehensive they might have become. When I lived there it was a quick visual inspection with more emphasis on the emissions portion of the test.
I don't know of any reliable online dealers of USDM engines as I am in need of one myself. There used to be quite a large pick and pull down in south Phoenix though.

i spoke to a guy at my local emissions testing facility and he said they pop the hood and do a quick visual, run the car vin, and make sure no codes are thrown when they use the scanner. so it doesnt seem too bad.
ok, i leave in east phoenix and i am not sure what you mean when you say pick and pull down. this is the first time i have ever shopped for a motor so are you saying i just need to shop junkyards for integras and pull the motor and necessary parts? or is there and easier way?

No. There is a pick and pull in the south Phoenix area. At least there was. This was over 15 years ago. You can try and call around and check the local yards or even check out Craiglist. But if AZ isn't as bad as the Cali ***** your original plan might be doable. HMO is hands down the most respected importer of JDM engines out there.
As for what you would need to get the swap working after you get it I'll let someone with experience speak to that.

Alright man thanks alot your replys have been very helpful. I will start calling around and see what I can find.
Haha yea AZ is nowhere near as bad as cali. I have heard horror stories lol.

If you have a hard time finding a usdm b18c1, look into the jdm b18c sir/sir-g motor. Found a bunch online. It is basically the same motor as the c1. You can use a usdm gsr p72 ecu as they are easier to find than the jdm ecu if the motor doesn't come w/ it and has the same map as well.
by the way not to be a dick...but if you have a 00ex a more appropriate username would have been Ej8whiteboy...haha lol. People tend to get away with calling their 96-00 hatches ek's than the coupes or sedans. Not trying to rag on ya
Haha no problem man. i know its a technicality but I just like the sound of EK better than EJ. Dont ask me why because im not sure lol.
I have done no research on the b18c sir motor, and I will start but if you could maybe link me to where you found them and how much wiring and parts I would need concerning a JDM motor with USDM ecu it would help launch my search.
And to grumblemarc: I found a pick and part about 15 minutes away from me so I am going to check out what they have on monday. Thanks for the info!

just run car with your stock ecu or 99-00 civic si went u go take test.that i do to my 99 civic dx hatch with jdm gsr swap.just make sure have all the senosr.
I have 00 civic si with jdm b18c... Just finish with the swap 2 months ago.. I might able to help u. Text me at 3365122498 if u need more info. Im currently using an obd1 ecu.. I bought a 98 jdm but somehow my dizzy didn't match up with the wire harness so therefor I bought a 99 00 dizzy (the tech told me it's an obd1 motor but I still believe it's an obd2 cuz I bought it online at Torontojdm.com). U should double check that.. U will need to use 2 connector from ur jdm wire harness and replace it with ur stock wire harness.. That's wat I did... I friend bypass some of the sensor.. Dunno which 1. For ecu inspection problem.. I was using an obd1 ecu p28 had 3 code.. Fuel / o2 sensor / and vacuum.. I upgraded to skunk2 IM... Witch I will think it's gonna get rid of 2 code.. Vacuum and fuel... Somehow when I pump gas.. Releasing the gas thingy while my engine is runnin.. It stall. Basically problem with gas thingy that's wat I meant. Skunk2 IM solve that that's wat I really mean.. Ok ok long story but yeah after installing the IM.. The scanner doesn't read.. So therefor I didn't pass inspection.. I had to do it illegal way. It might b when installing the IM.. Reconnecting the wire harness might had something to do with it... I'll find out when summer comes.. That's when I work on the wire harness rerunning it.. Well text me if u need anymore info..
Oh yeah.. I don't have any check engine light... Skunk2 IM solve my gas issue about stalling the car while engine running and/ either shutting the engine off... Hard time cranking it up..
