JDM Motor in 00 civic
hey guys, i have a question. i have read all the sticky's on jdm motors and getting it Bar'd in cali but im still not clear on one thing.
i understand that jdm motors do not have vins like the usdm ones do,so can the ref still tell what year it is? im thinking about getting a motor from Hmotorsonline and they emailed me back that they only have 00-01 jdm gsr and type r motors. if it comes down to not being able to find i USDM gsr or type r from 00-01 to be legal i might just get the JDM motor and swap the necessary components to make it smog legal.
so if i get a jdm motor does it still need to be the same year as my car (00), or can they not tell what year it is and then i just need to get a 00 USDM ecu, exhaust manifold, and all the other little things as long as its obd 2? thanks.

Pardon me for being nieve .... but wouldn't it be excessively expensive to buy a JDM motor (which is more expensive than a USDM motor) and then put on USDM components that you have to pay extra for? Why not just browse the classifieds?
