Going to get this figured out finally this summer, just thought I'd check to see what else it could be. Just a little history first.

Engine has been rebuilt (mainly seals and stuff), then the balancer hacked off a part of the crank keyway and had to replace the crank. Installed a ITR crank a couple years ago and ever since there's been a ticking noise coming from the valve cover area. Well I've tried what everybody else has suggested, replaced all of the LMA's with the new spring type LMA and that didn't fix the problem. Adjusted the valve lash on all of the valves, still not fixed.

So going back to the rebuild, the mechanic didn't replace all the valve guides at the time since only a few were loose. What I'm wondering is if loose valve guides can cause a valve-ticking like sound?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Just want to get a few ideas before I tear the head apart this summer. Thanks!

 

if the lash gets out of spec and gets driven for so many thousands of miles off specs, I've read the can lobes wear out of spec causing valve train noise. even though its speced out, you'll still hear that good 'ol b18 chatter

 

im having the same problem. clicky sounds under the valve cover. haven't had a chance to find those LMA's, figured it'd be the first thing to replace. where did you get yours from? and how much?

 

you need to do an valve lash and if that doesnt help you may need to do an oil pressure test and see if you oil pump is on its way out
