Has anyone heard of G-Oil?
It's a bio-based full synthetic motor oil that they say is made from beef tallow. I'm no tree hugger, but I'm all for using a greener product if I can as long as it does what I need it to do and doesn't cost me an arm and leg more than what I usually use.

Everything that's "Synthetic" is synthesized from something. It just so happens that this product is synthesized from beef tallow.
I'd heard of industrial applications using soy based lubricants.

there is some oil that is made from carbon and hydrogen to form the molecules and not made from something naturally occuring like beef tallow.

The reason for that is motor oil formulators are allowed to call a motor oil "synthetic" if it meets certain performance standards characteristic of a full-synthetic motor oil — regardless of whether the base oil used to formulate the motor oil is a true synthetic Group IV polyalphaolefin (PAO) base stock or a highly refined Group III petroleum base stock. That's right. Many "synthetic" motor oils are, in fact, made out of petroleum.(or in the case of G oil...beef tallow)

^ he's exactly right, this came from castrol when they first started formulating there edge products back in 2000, mobil one sued them saying this product was not a true synthetic and they lost. So now the consumer has to figure out weather the oil they r buying is a true group 4 (pao) or just a highly refinded group three conventional.....thanks alot castrol and BP. Easiest way to tell is ur gonna b spending at least 9 bucks a quart for true synthetic
Group III almost Synthetics.
Mobile One non commercial grade oils.
Valvoline Synthetic oil.
Castrol Syntec
Quaker State Synthetic oil
Pennzoil Synthetic oil
Lucas Synthetic oil?, not sure at this time, maybe a group 4.
Rotella 5w-40 commercial Synthetic Diesel oil
Group 4 and 5 Real True Synthetics oils.
Royal purple Synthetics
Redline Synthetics
Amsoil Synthetics
Motul Synthetics
Spectro Synthetics
Mobile One Delvac 1 commercial Diesel Oil.

Another thing worth mentionin is that group 4 does not mix with conventionals so id assume the lucas additive is ment for true group 4s but i dunno
