Default getting a gsr head fixed

im not sure if this is the right thread to put this in so i would like the mod to move it if so

also not sure if my title is the best to represent my question

well anyways i just took a head to the machine shop for a good friend and the owner(nice guy) explained to me it might be pricey to fix the damage to the head but it can be done, he believes that the engine broke a piston ring which cause all the damage and messed up the valve seats so he said the most he would charge to fix it is 550 which involves removing all the pieces of metal shavings grinding it smoothe them welding\installing 4 new valve seats, preaty much after he is finished all i have to do is drop it onto a new block. so my question is is it worth it or is there a cheaper place to get it done in the broward or dade area in south florida ill put up pics in a few

For that kind of money, you could get a working condition head.

When damage like that happens to a stock head, it's not worth paying that kind of money to repair it.

Don't get rid of it tho. You may need to repair it someday. Supply on these motors are ever dwindling.

I would look for a good head, but save that one for parts. Never know when you might need something off of it.

he's going to keep it or give it to me but this head has now killed a relationship between him and the engine builder because the guy that the head was taken too said the head was built incorrectly cause they didn't check the lma's for wear and tear or the cams and he noticed the motor was burning excessive oil by him just looking at the valves, he said what cause the engine to blow was that it lost a piston ring and it took out number three cylinder,he also said he has to check to see if it even has aftermarket(titanium) valves springs retainers because that is what was suppose to be installed

also it had s2p2 cams which the intake side cam lobe on # 2 has flat spots in a couple places from grinding into the lma's

i always used this builder but now im even scared so its building motors myself from now on

the valves on #3 is still there its the valve seat that took a ish
