a/f ratio gauge problems, need wiring help asap
Hey guys, I just finished installing my a/f ratio gauge and it doesnt work.. I have the power running to the yellow/red wire from the radio connection and ground/signal wired directly to the ecu. The only problem is, I yanked my radio the other day, so I dont think the circuit is working now. Is this the reason why its not working? According to the fusebox, the clock/radio are on the same fuse, but the clock works? Doesnt that mean that the radio circuit should too? Can anyone help? I want to finish the install today..
thanks a lot

yup. three wires, red(+12) black (ground), purple(signal)
All are wired correctly as far as i can tell.
I believe that if i cross the switched 12v radio connection (the one i have the power of the gauge wired to) with the ground wire, it shoudl comeplete the circuit and get it to work for the time being until i get my radio in. But I'm no electrical engineer and I'm not sure if that will blow stuff up or not.

well if you plug in the power wire to those gauges first..if its a auto meter.....you will burn it...you need to have it grounded first...then you can plug the +connection...i used the live wire from the cig lighter...live with the key on...

Ok heres the update, I just crossed the +12v red/black switched power that ive connected the red wire on teh gauge to with the ground wire and started the car... nothing
hopefully I didnt blow the gauge, I did wire the + first.. but that shoulnt be a problem with it being a switched ignition wire right? Plus I pulled the radio/clock fuse before i did anything so it should be safe? Any other ideas?

im not sure about that wire....i know for a fact that the cig lighter + wire is live only when the key is in the on position, try it there i guess, and if it doesnt work then its gone...
ok, everything's gone to ****... I rewired the red lead from teh gauge to the solid red on the lighter as u suggested. Of course, does it work, NO! grr..
so im like what teh **** i give up, and i push in the cigarette lighter for ***** and wait...wait wait. nothing happens. The cigarette lighter doesnt even work now.
I can think of only one more possible outcome... I was thinking that maybe the ecu is 'smart' in that it checks the radio connections and says 'ok u have power & ground connected but not anything else' and cuts power to the entire assembly including the cigarette lighter.
Please help! i am at the end of my rope.

what should this gauge do when the power/ground are connected properly and the signal wire isnt connected? Any LEDs light up or no?

If the power and ground are connected right, a green led on the rich side of the gauge will be lit. Also you said that you connected the ground wire and the signal wire directly to the ecu? I connected the signal wire to the wire on the o2 harness and the ground directly to a metal surface and the thing has been working fine for 4 years.

The thing is that I know my ground is working because I've got a vtec light using the same wire (i soldered them together by the gauge pillar) and the light works fine.. It's gotta be my power wire thats bad, or the gauge is bad, or I somehow managed to blow it up even tho the fuse was pulled, etc.
Sorry to bring this back to top, but I keep finding stuff out. I just bought a multimeter and measured the voltage coming out of the power wire and the red wire on the cigarette lighter.. Both registered at 0V whether or not the key is turned or not. Any reason why this might be? Remember, I have no radio connected right now, but I still dont see why these wires aren't live. Any Ideas?
You blew the fuses somehow, replace them, they are either under the dash or under the hood. If you keep blowing fuses after you wire up the gauge, you have electrical issues with the gauge, ie. broken.
just rechecked the fuses. none are blown. the clock radio fuse was just replaced, and the clock works fine...
is there another fuse inside the car i could check?
