3rd gear grinds really bad, transmission options? 1991 LS
Can I please get a list of which tranny's will bolt up to my 1991 LS? My third gear grinds pretty bad every time, regardless of rpm. I've only driven the car once since I bought it (about 2 weeks ago). It's a little project car so I'm not really in a huge rush to find a replacement tranny. Just seeing what my options are, thanks in advance for any advice.
p.s. i'm not really building this motor up, so I don't need a performance tranny. Just something simple.

yeah, but i don't really know enough info on going about that. I would probably just find a DIY online and do it myself. Where can I get a replacement synchro?
We have rebuild kits, synchros, or remanufactured transmissions. You will need at least the synchro and sleeve set for 3rd to fix your transmission.
"if the syncro mesh doesnt fix it try sitting in the car and push the shifter toward 3rd gear without your foot on the clutch. push it to the point where your tach will drop just a bit but where you wont grind the gear. hold it there and rev the car to around 4k and hold it for 10 seconds. if that doesnt help a little then syncros will need to be replaced to remedy it "
That really works I cant belive it fixed mine!! My third was grinding at 4000 rpm's tried this as a last resort! it Worked!!!

The very simplest thing I can think of is to check the fluid level. And after that, maybe to replace whatever potion is in there with genuine Honda MTF.
If the grinding does not abate after those very cheap and simple things, then consider replacing the transmission.

Haha I tried this, since my 3rd gear grinds at high rpm.... well the rpms never changed and it just tried to go into thrid with a loud grinding noise... no bueno
then just revved up to about 4 grand foe a few seconds. sorry it didnt work for ya. I'm still shocked it worked for me I for sure thought my tranny or synco's were toast.

I tried the suggestion here (also as a last resort), about letting the engine idle and pushing the shifter toward 3rd but not too far up so it would grind, no foot on the clutch and revving to 4k rpm for 10 seconds. It definitely helped so thank you for this advice. I still have some grinding in 3rd, but only if I force/slam it quickly into 3rd regardless of the rpm. However, if I shift smoothly without forcing or slamming it into 3rd it actually seems to have improved since I tried this suggestion. I don't know why it works or where you got this suggestion, but thank you. I was very surprised. I guess this technique helps recalibrate the synchros perhaps? Now time to change the seals and o-rings in the fuel injectors and install a new fuel filter b/c I'm getting a fuel smell in the car when I drive that's getting me high on fumes.
