I went through almost every thread google has been able to find for me and I have not been able to figure out why my car idles at about 1k rpms when cold, and as it gets warmer it raises to about 2k. sometimes at a light itll go up to 3k rpms. If i slam the gas itll go back down to 2k.

I have cleaned out the iacv, throttle body, intake mani, checked the pcv valve, checked for vacuum leaks, I disconnected the iacv and screwed the idle screw all the way out AND all the way in and idle didnt even move.

While cleaning out throttle body i did notice the hinge to the plate was getting stuck so i cleaned it out real good but it seems like its scraping on the metal since there is a streak where you can see the wear of the plate rubbing. Also when the car is idling whenever i press down on the throttle hinge it will bog down to 800 then jump up to 1500rpms but as soon as i give it gas it goes right back up to 2-3k.

When i blocked the iacv hole (i have a fitv bypass) on the throttle the car DID bog out and almost die and it did not pick up, it just ran like **** till i took my fingers off. according to the thread on team-integra its due to a bad iacv but i havent been able to find one and i dont have the $150 for a new one.

Ive burped the coolant system as well.

Before i start wasting money and throwing parts at it I would like to get opinions on what i could do.



*These are my hunches of what the culprit could be*

1) Car was tuned on 270 injectors with a bigger fuel pump that both were removed and replaced with stock parts before i purchased the car.

2) Iacv is bad.

3) Throttle body plate is sticking

4) air where i live is enriched with extra nitrogen

besides switching out ecu's or checking for timing (i dont have timing gun) or replacing the iacv, what else could it be?!?

 

Another thing it does is when im turning the car off instead of being a quick shut off it feels like its still getting gas and it takes a few seconds for the motor to shut off, which it always does with a good shake of the car like almost like stalling out due to lack of air/gas.

 

i have a similar problem but mine is when the car is cold. once it warms up everything is fine. BUT before it does the car is jumpy when it gets to around 1500rpm. Ive done all the same things you did to try to fix the problem. I don't know what else to do either. I have the d15b7 motor though. if I fix the problem, ill let you know

 

Have you tried cleaning the IACV yet?

 

yea i sprayed it rigorously with carb cleaner and it didnt do anything. when i unplugged the iacv the idle went down to like 1400 instead of the 300-400 it does on my other del sol.

 

idle screw on the throttle is all the way down, i cleaned the throttle in every single spot left it minty fresh. havent checked timing or tried adjusting it since i dont have the tools, im gonna try to use the p06 off my other del sol to see if it will idle lower/normal. if not ill see if i can find someone with a p72 or p30 or something with a dohc basemap.

 

typically with cold starts its the fitv. unscrew the cap, twist it out the way and screw in the white plastic thing all the way in. My car at cold start is around 1200-1400. Then it slowly goes up to 2000-2200 rpms. when its at operating temp and ive been driving for a while it will get stuck at 3k and if i slam the gas it will jump back down to 2k.

 

removed throttle cable and idles the same. When i pushed down on the throttle body hinge where the cable goes to close it down all the way the idle dropped way low for a second and picked up to about 1500. hmmmm

 

Yea, ive cleaned it already and took it off twice to screw the plastic thing all the way in. Still have CEL on, BUT...it doesn't always come on...??? Sometimes it stays off and still the idle fluctuates rapidly. My last d15b7 engine never had idle problems, and Ive taken the TB, IM, IACV, FITV and engine wiring harness from that engine. I am completely out of ideas as well. I wish there was an easy button on this ****..ha. if i find anything out..i will post it. good luck with everything

 

also, when I put my finger over the IACV hole in the throttle body...the idle goes down and idles normally. So thats another reason why I am confused. But i can't find any vacuum leaks anywhere?

Your problem is the IACV,sounds like it is bad and cleaning them does not allways fix the problem.
Your problem goes away when you cover the hole so why look for something else.

 

so when you cover the hole the car is suppose to die out/sputter or act normal?

 

Another thing i realized today is when i turn the car off since it takes about 3 seconds for the motor to completely shut off, if i turn the key to ignition ON (not turning it all the way to turn on) before the 3 seconds is up the car will turn back on.

 

Your car will turn back on if the motor is still rotating when you turn from off to on. Its nothing unusual. I agree with the other guys in that you need a new iacv. Also check and make sure your tps is at .5 volts..... thats half a volt....... at fully closed throttle. Also make sure your throttle cable is not too tight. I have seen this happen. Good luck.

 

i removed the cable from the throttle hinge all together to see if that was the case but no change. Ill check the tps and go from there.

 

what engine is on your other del sol? im pretty sure ive heard someone say you can swap the d16 iacv onto a b16. Try that and see if it helps so youd know for sure if its bad or not.

 

i have a p72 head with a skunk2 1st gen intake manifold

 

it idles normal when I do that. Ive tried two IACVs already, one from my old motor that ran perfectly fine, and the one that came with this motor i have now. So I don't understand why it would be the IACV. maybe i need to try another one, I really don't want to buy a brand new one for $250!!
