Default I have no neutral

I put an 88 Civic big spline trans in my 90 Civic LX. Went together fine just Im always in gear. Sometimes when I put it in first Its in neutral. If Im in neutral and let off the clutch the car take off. Do I need to change the shift rods or something? The trans seems fine its not making any noises or anything. The clutch works fine. If I unhook the shift rod and move it by hand under the car moving that rod that comes out of the trans I can get it into neutral. Then if I line the shift rod back up the shifter is in 3rd. It seems like its too long. I looked up shift rods for other cars but keep getting the same part number. Any ideas?

Should I just cut and weld my shift link shorter? Or maybe heat it up and put more of a bend in it?

Nope stock d15b2

Also it drove fine with the stock trans and clutch. The trans I had in it kept popping out of 2nd and the clutch was shot when I got the car. I drove the car around the block today and it does move. It seems to only have one gear and that 2nd. If I have it in neutral its in 2end shift to 1st its still the same gear. When driving the trans sounds fine no grinds or any thing.

Also if I put the car in reverse the rear back up lights come on. But the car will not move like it wants to but something is holding it back.

Drove it around last night to see if I had any gears. Seems like its stuck in 2nd. neutral is 2nd gear. Put it in first same. The the others wont go in to. Unless you are stopped but it acts like there is something holding it back.
