Default 92 eg fuel pump on frits?

Just wondering how i can check if my fuel pump is gonna pack it in. ive tryed a new main relay and checked the plug and its doin the same thing. ill turn the key on and sometimes the fuel pump will kick in right away other times it can be up to 5 min before it will kick in. it seems to be random when it kicks in, but when im driving it runs fine, is their anything else it might be making the pump not kick in?

New main relay or used one?

When you turn key to ON(II) and the fuel pump fails to prime, does the CEL remain on steady or does it turn off after 2 seconds?

this is why i think its the fuel pump i changed the main relay did the same thing i dont think it the ignition switch because the car will always turn over and try to start and power goes to every thing once i turn the key on. but the fuel pump turns on to prime when it wants some time its right away other time you can wait for 5-10 min or more but its random so i sit their key on nothing key off then key on nothin and i keep doin that until it primes once it primes then it starts and runs
i dont have insurance on it right now but when this first started i did and when i drove it i dont believe it ever stalled the engine from no gas but if i shut it off then i coould play that stupid waiting game for it to start

When the CEL turned off, did the pump prime? If so, the ECU may be bad.

Sounds like a fuel pump problem. Unplug the main relay and jump the wire terminal from fuse 31 to the wire terminal to the fuel pump in the connector. Does the fuel pump run?

Clean the ground wires on the thermostat housing. That's where the main relay is grounded thru the ECU. If that's OK it may be the ECU. I had the same problem and had to replace the ECU on a 93 del sol. My ECU had water corrosion on the top half of the outer case so I assume a leak did something that shorted out the circuit board that activated the fuel pump.
