Ok im sure you have heard this before for cars.. But i have a 16 foot open all metal trailer and want to repaint it. Both the top and bottom with some rust inhibiting paint.
How much paint will it take to cover it?
Has anyone painted a open trailer before?

Thanks Gorilla.. I was thinking a gallon, or gallon and a half.
Second question...
The paint is a rust inhibitor and is a self leveling paint.
POR15
I have been told i can brush this on and the paint wont show any brush marks.
Some how I dont think it will come out all that good.
Im prepared to spray it with a gun.
What are your thoughts?
here is the paint website.

i used por15 for my floor pan.. u'll need two coats. im too lazy to check the website, but i think if u wanna spray it out of a spray gun all you have to do is thinn it out... i wouldnt use por15 for my exterior. i'd just get an epoxy primer, and then base/clear, or singlestage paint.
POR 15 does level out very well. Use a foam roller and you will not have any brush marks, it will be glass smooth when it dries.
It is however, VERY toxic, so spraying it puts you at risk more so than brushing it.
POR 15 also cannot be exposed to sunlight...the website should have more info on that

according to their website, if sunlight hits it, all that happens is, it gets discolored and turns yellowish or something. it doesnt lose any rust protecting properties, etc... so you should top coat it, and they have topcoat.
In some parts of the site they say that, and then in other parts they say DO NOT LET IT COME IN CONTACT WITH SUNLIGHT!....so it's iffy.
I shot POR on a daily basis for the National Guard a few years back and when it sat in the sunlight and discolored we would have to sand it down and re-shoot. They considered it's properties compromised apparently.
Not trying to argue, just FYI

if thats the case then I'd just go with epoxy primer, then basecoat/clearcoat.
por-15 dries really hard, aso its hard to paint. and they have very limited color options
