Default Block good or bad?! Help

So my brother just bought a civic, and he got a z6 head and block from the guy that was sittin there too. Head is supposedly good, havent looked into it much, block looks pretty good except one thing.

What it looks like happened is a nut on one of the bolts that holds the bearing on the piston backed off or something and it got tossed around and chewed up maybe? All i wanna know is if the block can be used or if its junk. It didnt touch the cylinder wall at all from the looks of it. Its right above the crank off to the side of the cylinder wall. Looks like it just chewed up a little metal from getting tossed around inside. Crank looks perfectly fine itself. Like i said cylinder wall looks perfectly fine also. My pictures arent the best so i apologize but let me know what you guys think.

First is pics of the nuts and bolts, you can see the one that backed off.

Next, im pointing to where its at.

Bad pic, but right inbetween the crank, Lots of it is shavings and they arent very deep at all.

Another, like i said lots are shavings.

Let me know what you guys think

I honestly wouldn't touch that block with a ten foot pole... Metal shavings + moving parts = disaster. It honestly isnt that much for new rings, hardware, bearings, etc, and is worth it. Just rebuild it.

I guess i should have stated in my op, If i do anything with the block, it will be all stripped down and cleaned up, (possibly bored out) and will get new pistons, rods, bearings, the whole 9 yards, was just wondering if that would affect it still though before i spent the money on it.

You will be fine as long as it didn't touch the cylinder walls. Then you would need it honed.

if the walls are okay, and if the markings of the nut are minimal, then it should be okay.

i agree.... with all the info given im 100% sure ur block will hold up i had a similar situation but i spun a rod bearing of course the crank and rod was done for and i still drove 5 mi. w/ it knockin to my house there was all kinds metal in it andthe rod was bashing into my block almost right next to where the cylinder wall starts ne way im not rich and luckily i had a short blk z6 sittin in the garage so all i did was take bearings, crank, and tht one rod slapped it all back in my d16y5 ("after i meticulously cleaned every single inch of the block&head ") then threw it back in the ek which still runs great even tho i rape the monkey **** out of it on a daily basis ne way point being if my block made it through all tht so should ur with out an issue beside i was 16 wen i did tht rebuild i call it my joe dirt engine since everything but the head gaskit was used lol o btw my first post got 2 b on ur thread lucky u nd good luk on ur rebuild as well
