Default 98 Civic, Need help with high/lumpy idle when cold.

Car is a 98 Dx, stock Y7 with no modifications.

Yesterday I did a cap, rotor, Dizzy O-ring, and fuel filter, and cleaned the IACV and throttle body a little.

When I did the O-ring, I did mark the dizzy, so I know the timing is fine.
I used all OEM parts.

The problems started yesterday after the work was done, and the first start.

It is now idleing at 2000rpm when cold, and jumps between 16-700 to 2000rpm for the first minute or so. The idle starts to jump after 30 ish seconds. It only does it when cold.

Once the car has ran for a minute the idel drops down to the normall 1k and runs great.
I drove it around a little last night, and there is noithing wrong once it's warm. Runs smooth, and accelerates smooth, and idles at about 7-800rpm.

There are no CEL's. The light does work, and turns off after about 3 seconds. it doen't struggle to start, and does not bog when rev'd.
This is only the first start when cold.

I am looking for any tips to what could cause this, and or fix it.

Thanks.

Normal idle speed when the engine is hot should be about 670 rpms.

Is the throttle body clean? Does the throttle cable have some slack (~1/2")?

Have you tried bleeding the cooling system?

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed as detailed in the service manual?

It's not perfectly clean, I wasn't really able to get all of the crap out. Should I pull it and try again?

I have adjusted the throttle cable, not sure if there is 1/2'' slack or not. I will check that and post as soon as I can.

I have not tried adjusting the idle speed. Should this be done when the car is warm?

I'll have to dig up the service manual, and check.

Thank you for posting, I was hoping you would.

Only if you think it might be dirty enough to cause the throttle plate to stick slightly open.

Sorry, No I have not bled the cooling system yet. I didn't even think about that.
I will do that tomorow.

I will check the throttle body in the morning, and might pull in and try cleaning it a litle more/better.

I will adjust the throttle cable, and the idle speed.

Thank you for the help! Once I get everything done, I'll post the results.

Ok I have good news.

I pulled the throttle body and cleaned it really well, and also cleaned the IACV a little more.

I adjusted the throttle cable aswell.

On the first start cold start the car idled good, at 16-700, it usaly idled at 1500 and dropped to 1k after a minute or so. It still drops to 1k, and no longer jumps from 1.5k-2k rpm.

I bled the cooling system also.

When the car warms up it idles well at about 700 rpm. I haven't adjusted the idle speed yet, and I most likely will not. I am not terribly worried about the idle speed being dead on.

I am going to let the car sit and cool down, and am planning to go back out tonight and see if it still sits at 1.7k while cold.

Thank you for the help,
