main bearing oil clearance
building an ls turbo engine, stock crank micropolished, got some new acl race bearings, went to install today and the tolerance was out, standard is .0009 to .0017 and max is .002...im reading .003 on all journals, i did not notice any other sizes of bearings other then standard ones...what can I do? Also i have golden eagle studs and install says to torque to 10 pounds then put the mains on and torque the nuts to 56 pounds, and when i went to losen the nuts off to check my clearances the studs came loose from the block as well, it says not to over tighten the studs...is this normal?
You may have to turn the crank .010 under and use the bearings spec'd for that. I think ACL can do that too.
On the studs, yes - normal. Just remember to snug them back down each time or they may 'creep' off with the on/off of checking clearances.
Good luck - Mark

It's a standard means of bringing a worn or damaged crankshaft back into spec, clearance wise. The machine shop takes off additional material (ergo, 'under' sized) and the bearings are sold .010 thicker so the net effect is to regain the right clearance between bearings and crank.
Check the supplier where you got your bearings, this website (for example) lists ACL bearings in .001 and .010 undersize - so if .001 is enough you wouldn't have to take as much material off the crank.
You'll have to go full page to read this...
Your mechanic can tell you which you need... if your clearance is .003 across the board, then .001 isn't enough.
Good luck
