obd2 jdm gsr in 98 hatch using obd1 ecu help
ok so i got a 98 hatch that already has a b18a1 block and 96 head and im running an obd1 ecu with jumper harness, anyways it used to have a b20 vtec motor so vtec wires are there, and im planning to get a jdm obd2 gsr motor and im planning on using an obd1 ecu since i already got the jumper harness,iv been reading up on something about the iab(secondary butterfly)does an obd1 ecu have that?what will i need to do to take care of that?basically what do i need to do or get to make an obd2 jdm gsr motor work using an obd1 ecu?thanks
The only compatible OBD1 ECU that has IAB control is the P72 GSR ECU. You will need to wire the IAB's directly since you have to use the EK harness and it doesn't have the IAB wires. Another way around this (not as good, but works) is to just disconnect the vacuum hose to the IAB diaphram and plug the hose. This will make the IAB's stay open all the time. (You will want to have your car tuned to operate this way if you plan to leave it like that).
YOU NEED A OBD1 P72, ON THE OBD1 P72 THE GROUND COMES FROM THE ECU, AND THE 12V COMES FROM UNDER THE HOOD, THIS IS THE EASY WAY OF DOING IT, YOULL NEED TO KNOW WHAT PINOUT TO CONNECT TO, XENOCRONS WEBSITE HAS A DIY WRITE UP CHECK IT OUT
Also, the OP stated that he's using a jumper to OBD1. So why bother mentioning the OBD2 P72 wiring???

hmm im wondering,if the IAB is on the intake manifold cant i just simply just get an aftermarket intake manifold?and get rid of the IAB or is it best to just keep the IAB functional?
well if your planning to run an aftermarket intake manifold in the future, mind as well go p28..better performance/tune since you won't have IAB on the aftermarket Intake Manifolds.
so get an aftermarket intake manifold,p28 ecu and call it a day?lol sorry this is my first motor swap so i wanna get it right the first time.
The IABs on the GSR are for MIDrange power. If you get an aftermarket IM (like a skunk2) you may lose a touch of midrange but gain some top end (peak power)
i was going to mention this id say just eliminate and go with a p28... if yr plan is run a skunk2 or something id just do that
