Honestly, do you know if there is any REAL DIFFERENCE between 87,89, & 91 octane gas?

I "heard" that when the tanker is refueling the gas station up, its all the same gas. I hope im drastically wrong, i hope there is really some FACT of evidence that proves the difference in gas grades. Casue honestly, i don't know, does anyone have any REAL FACTS by any chnanc???

Why would they use separate tankers for different grades of gas? The most cost effective solution is to simply use octane and detergent additives to make premium from the regular, at the station.

89 is blended at the pump, like frozen yogurt with 2 flavors swirled.

i herd a few things, but heres one tht kinda makes sence. the 87 is just gas(some also contains methonol(which is bad for the motor). the other have an aditive in it,the higher the octane the more additive it conyains, but also i herd its not enough to make a diff., even in the 91.I get the 87 then put the LUCUS or Marvel mistery oil(add to oil or fuel) in every other time i fill up

"Just gas" is already a mixture of multiple different compounds, including ethanol (not methanol) in the US.

Research time for some of you:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

If you just want the cliff's notes, octane rating is nothing more than resistance to ignition, a minimum is necessary to prevent pre-igniting the mixture (called "knocking", "pinging", or "pinking"), and that minimum depends on the specifics of the engine it's used in.

I just follow what the manual says.. regular for me.

I did pump 94 octane a few times, no difference. except maybe my wallet was a bit lighter.

Octane rating only has to do with the fuels ability to resist combustion. When your engine is on the compression stroke, the oxygen and fuel molecules are being squeezed together very tightly, causing them to heat up. Anytime you compress something it heats it up. Having a higher octane fuel in your engine helps resist pre-ignition of the fuel due to compression heating. The higher your compression ration, the more octane you need, plain and simple. Instead of spending a crap load more filling your daily driver up with 91, try a tank of 89, if you hear a little pinging, you know you can't run 89, if you don't hear any pinging and the car runs fine, stick to 89 or maybe even try dropping to 87.

For those who want the sortened version:

All gas is exactly the same, the only difference is the higher the octane rating, the better resistance to combustion the fuel has.

As stated in this previous post as well (just caught that someone had already got it right):
