Preping my 6th-Gen Hatch: Q's on D to B series swap
My Story:
I have a 1996 DX Hatchback which I'm looking to do a swap on. I've already decided I'll be buying my motor from www.hmotorsonline.com - as anyone here in central CA I've spoken with highly recommend it. The car has been built around the idea of a future motor swap - ITR 5-lug, Full adjustable suspension, updated front end and interior. That and I'm just itching for an upgrade in power - even if I am 10 years late in the game.
My Options: (chosen by my own personal preferences - not really open to other motors)
B16A 92-95 (SiR-II) - $2550
B16B (EK TypeR) - $3300
My Assumptions:
The B16A is OBD1, while my current car and the B16 are both OBD2. Either motor requires mounts from other civics.
My Conditions:
Needs to pass CA BAR inspection and be 100% legal. I'm not needing AC - maybe one day, but not initially.
My Questions:
All my research is conflicting; so that's why I'm here potentially posting the same questions other's have in the past -
1) Will CA BAR accept a motor out of an older car (i.e. the B16A out of the 92-95)?
2) What else would I need to get to swap OBD2 to OBD1? Rough cost estimates?
My initial conclusions:
At this point, it looks like the B16B would only be $850 more at best - less what other conversion costs exist - so maybe only $500. And that's still pending if the swap on a B16A is legal in CA. On average, what are the other expenses in a swap as far as parts go?

b16b = automatic fail in smog inspection
If your willing to spend money on a b16b then go b18c instead at least youll have a chance to pass smog with it
1) No because your car is 96 so you would need 96+ motors
2) If you do this you can't pass bar

get a JDM gsr with lsd trans and it will cost about the same as the B16B and have more TQ.. and more room for improvement... it will be obd2 so you should have no issue with inspections...
