Transmission Knock w/video
Once again my crx has problems. Anyways got the suspension bolted up and decided to check and make sure it would go threw the gears. Well anyways it did not go well. Ended up getting this knock. Car is a b18b with an a1 trans
So far I have:
Adjusted the clutch with no change.
Checked the axles. Both look good and are not binding.
Checked the half shaft. Its bolted up and looks good.
Engine mounts are bolted up all nice and tight.
Checked the shift linkage. Looks good.
Symptoms:
Have the knock, worse on the transmission side.
Both wheels are spinning and I have no lsd.
Engine is rocking back and for every time I hear a knock.
Noise gets 10x worse in 2nd gear and 100x worse in 3rd.
Anyways here is the video. Any ideas. The car was not doing this before the new upper control arms/ball joints/tie rods and the head gasket job. Also ignore the brake lines and the missing body panels.

transmission worked 5 months ago other than a fast third gear grind. It was a dd so it was never shifted fast anyways. Axles are free and clear to move and are in the half-shaft/transmission all the way. Played with it some more. If I stop the drivers side wheel the knock goes away completely. If I stop the passenger side wheel the knock gets way worse.
that's what was not wanting to hear. If it needs that then its getting parked, parted,or sold. Going to remove axles and reinstall them tomorrow. If I have Time.
The diffs in those trannies are week, might be ready to break.
Replacing one is pretty easy there is a write up in tech section,
I put a type r lsd into a ys1 trannny only took like 2 hours to do it,
should be able to find open diff cheap. I have one i'd sell but your to
far away. I've broken 3 of stock ones.

Don't put the axles back in... just take them out and run it.
If it still makes the noise then it's internal and you need to drop the tranny no matter what.
If the tranny proves to be toast and you are definitely DONE with the car, then I suggest you get your money's worth and pick up a used tranny and toss it on there. With the axles out, you have all the 'hard' work out of way the for pulling the tranny.
Get a cheap LS tranny in there and at least you can sell the car in operational condition rather than broken.

Yeah. I may try that. Went out and played with it some more. I can turn the drivers side axle while in neutral but can turn the drivers side. So I have pretty much narrowed it down to the axle or diff. I could try to find a used trans but I run into the problem of the a1 trans. Its a 90 model over the later ones. That means I have a 20 spline clutch over the 21 spline clutch. So chances are I would have to get another clutch as well. Going to continue giving zero love to this car.
It sounds like the diff to me. I broke some teeth off of a diff in one of my old transmissions and it did about the same noise. I changed the diff and no more noise, and drove fine.
well found both problems. Noise was coming from the drivers side axle. It had sized up. So replaced that. Also the speedo cable had come loose. Fixed that. Car should be ready to drive. To the alignment shop tomorrow.
