Just bought a 01 Civic EX 4 door a few months back. Everything was working fine when I bought it. The complete dash now isnt functioning. The weird part is that sometimes it does work . But randomly. I have no clue where to start. At first I checked all the fuses thinking that was it. But they are all good. Like I said it randomly works. :/

 

If you have an aftermarket radio look behind it at the wires to see if something is loose or shorted. There's also a TSB about the combination switch for that year- check the sticky. Other possibilities are a short in a wire somewhere or a bad MCU (it's in the under-dash fuse box).

 

There was an aftermarket radio. Which didnt come with the car. Just a big space there for now. MCU ?? Im new to these forums.

 

I bet that's the problem. The brightness control for the dash runs thru the stereo. Look for loose connections. FYI: MCU- Multiplex Control Unit

 

You think the radio connection would cause all that in my cluster going dead and coming back on randomly?

 

Yes. Fiddle around with it to see if the lights work. If they don't we'll try somewhere else.

 

try the ground on the radio its the only black one back behind the radio

 

Im thinking it gonna be the MCU. Like I said it works when it wants to. But the battery fuel light and trunk light on the dash dont ever work. But I have seen them just come on out of nowhere. Im gonna look into changing the MCU as soon as I find one. Will post as soon as I do.
