lately ive been smelling gas sometime when i get in my car or after i drive it. I've even had people tell me i smell like gas. i know my timing is off. its been waiting A LOT of gas too 20 bucks will last me 2 days, 3 1/2 at the most.

Can anyone help me out and let me know how i would be able to check if there is a gas leak?

Im sorry i dont know what CELs i reall dont know much about cars im still learning, how would i be able to tell?

 

CEL=Check Engine Light. How do you know your timing is off?

 

Get under the car and look. Not to try to seem like a dick but this isn't rocket science.

 

oh yes sorry my check engine light has been on but when i took my car to get looked at, they told me it was off and that they couldn't touch it because it has a chip on it or something like that. and i was told by numerous of people that it was off because they would hear it back-fire when i would shift from 3rd to 4th mostly rarely any gears lower

 

well it is when i know NOTHING about cars... so i wouldnt know where to look besides where the tank is...

No. A leak should be easy to spot. No real technical knowledge required. Get under the car and look for fresh gas. Best way to start learning. If you need to trace the fuel line from the tank to the engine bay. You should have an idea on where there might be a leak.

One more time; how do you know your timing is off?

 

Thank man, ill lift my car and try and see whats going on, more or less how does the fuel line look?

 

anything smoke or even gas coming out the exhaust? if you got gas coming out the pipe you could have a fuel injector stuck open

 

Great now i might have a fuel injector stuck open?
how would i check that?
