Default UGGG Motor build or swap? again

Hey everyone,
I have been serching and im still very unclear and have not been able to locate any information.
Now im sure this information is listed someware!!
I have a 2001 civic, i picked this car for the body style, now i did NOT expect a stock EX to have any power but i am/was thinking about changeing pistons/rods and throwing in a cam STG1
Im not looking for a track car.. Been there did that now i wanna get to and from work with the ability to get out into traffic with out getting killed!!!
Problem....
I cant find any GOOD companies that make the stock piston size adn with higher CR, i found rods....and i guess crower makes the cam
Now Motor swap ? why cant i put a B16 in my car? why is everything that im reading saying that it is illegal?
I guess i wanna know what motor swaps i can put in this car other then the Kick *** K20......
I know im so confused!!! someone help me with some information PLEASE....

Don't ...

You can use GX pistons to raise the compression or have a set custom made to match the stock bore.

Emissions regulation prohibit installing an engine into a later model chassis, theoretically since you have a 2001 you do have non-k-series swap options, but it would require a lot of custom parts making it ultimately impractical.

You can swap any k-series into your car, the k20a is by far the most expensive and the k20a3 is the most affordable.

First off, please read the FAQ's next time: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-2001-2005-78/faqs-guidelines-read-before-posting-2101211/
All of your questions are pretty much going to be answered in there.

Secondly, building a D17 won't net you much, unless you're willing to fork out some coin for K-Pro on an N/A build or build a turbo setup. Turbo setups can run your about $3,000 for a reliably good setup that will gain you 50whp or so.
