(for a friend) - b16 transmission.

My Tranny is stuck in 3rd gear. It shifts only to 1st 3rd and 5th and reverse but the only gear that will actually grab is 3rd..any ideas what it could be?

 

Only thing I can think of is the linkage is screwed up.

How does the clutch feel? And what does it feel like when trying to shift to 2nd or 4th?

 

clutch feels fine, but the shifter won't go in 2nd or 4th gear..

 

Is this a new problem? Or was something done recently that could have caused said problem? A little background would help. sounds like it could be a bent linkage though

 

does it grind when u try to put it in 2nd and 4th? If it does its the tranny but if the shiter is loose and wobbly then either ur bolt that holds the shifter came out or the pin that holds the linkage to the tranny end is loose. my bolt fell out last week and i could only shift to 2nd and 3rd

Im having the same problem with my tranny. My old one went out so I swapped in a new one but the shifter is stuck in nutral. When the car is off it ***** into every gear but once the car is on the shifter wont move and the clutch is way too loose.

 

try bleeding ur clutch and make sure the bolt to hold ur shifter isnt really really tight

@ Damian: sounds like a clutch issue. Make sure all cables/hydro lines are hooked up and that the proper tranny was swapped.

 

So today I bleeded the clutch about 30 time pumped it and its a lil better but still loose. I put my car up on stands turned it on and pretended as if I was driving. Gears are a bit hard but shifts gears 1-5 + r fine but as soon as I lower the car to drive it the shifter gets super hard again.. Never happen with any of my cars before :-/

 

yeah i know my friend who's having this problem is working..so i can't really say anything till i get a hold of him...i will check him to check the shift linkage first though that sounds like the problem cause he said he was having issues installing it last week..

 

Where does the pedal endplay end? If the pedal is too low it might not be disengaging the clutch enough

 

nah that shouldn't be the problem since it was working fine for a week or two before he put it in, he needs to get his damn *** on this thread lol

ok so it was working good and then he ended up having to reinstall the linkage and thats where it started messing up?

 

-This is what i got, 1st and 3rd and 5th goes as in the shifter when the car is off.... but when my car turns on i put it in first it has no response.... but if i put it in third it runs and is stuck in there even when i try to shift to 2nd,4th or 5th it wont go... im assuming itss my pilot bearing but i wont figure it out until i rip it out of the car,

clutch is fine since it still activates and deactivates the gears when i press and hold in the clutch.

shiftlinkage is fine cuz it was shifting perfect the 3 weeks before since i had it

 

if u havent messed with the linkage or shifter or anything like that then u shuld go ahead and replace that and see what happens

 

have u even checked the tranny fluid??

 

My problem would be the those gears are ****ed up if it won't go in!

 

OK. I COULDN'T FING A THREAD FOR MY PROBLEM SO I NEEDED TO ADD IT HERE... MY FRIEND HAS A 1990 ACURA LEGEND V6. 5-SPEED. SHE JUST HAD HER CLUTCH REPLACED AT A SHOP AND THE CAR DROVE FROM OAKLAND, CA TO SACRAMENTO, CA. IT WORKED GREAT FOR 2 WEEKS AND THEN SUDDENLY STOPPED GOING INTO GEAR. IT WON'T GO INTO ANY GEAR WHETHER THE CAR IS ON OR OFF. DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE BECAUSE I SURE DON'T... I CAN BE REACHED AT (530) 415-8717
