Default No 2nd, 4th and Sometimes Reverse On Ocassion???

So here lately my transmission wont let me go into 2nd, 4th and sometimes reverse. It's full of fluid. I noticed that the bolt closest to the firewall that goes into the tranny was literally gone and figured maybe the tranny shifted a little but when replaced it still does it on occasion. I know I need to replace my throw out bearing but could it be a clutch thing or could the tranny be screwed? I took out the center console to make sure nothing was blocking the linkage and its fine. What gets me is it only wont go into gear sometimes but acts perfectly fine when it does. Any help would be greatly appreciated

this same exact thing happened to my gf's cavalier. check the shift linkage on the tranny when someone in the car is moving the shifter. when you pull the shifter and back see if the linkage kinks up. if so you just need new linkage

yea someone was moving the linkage while i was under the car but it was engaging in all gears at that time so i never was really able to see anything wrong.

when i had her car up on jack stands i could run through all the gears fine when there wasnt a load on the tires. but when the car was on the ground the linkage was too weak to push it all the way into gear.

could need shifter stabilizer bushings (nice aftermarket ones are about $10), a nice drain and fill with GM synchromesh (gm part# 12345349). i think that would fix the problem. hard to diagnose a possible linkage issue without a visual inspection, but if you can't see a problem with the car on a lift, then i think the things i mentioned would fix the problem. i suspect bad/worn synchros, but synchromesh is gold in honda trannies. good luck
