valve chatter and white plumes of smoke?
so recently, I think I have been getting some valve chatter but cant tell for sure. It usually happens when from a cold start and also I believe I've been burning a massive amount of oil. After start up and I begin to drive not only do you hear what I believe is valve chatter but plumes of white/blueish smoke coming out of my exhaust. I have a 97 civic dx/D16y7. Any solutions? Usually the smoke goes away once the engine is warm...have no idea what could be causing this, my only guess is the mileage...well anyway, I wanna do a y8 swap but kind of scared because if its not the y7 head causing me to burn oil then I have no idea what it is!! any help would be nice.
For the chatter, adjust the valves.
For the burning oil, do a compression check, and post the numbers. It is likely the rings.
The while smoke, is most likely just water in the exhuast, which is totaly fine.

Hot, cold, hot, cold=Condensation=Water in pipes. when that heats up, it turns into steam, and that's what you see coming from the exhuast.
It "could" be a coolant leak/burning coolant/bad HG.
Is there any coolant/oil mixing? Does the car overheat?

hey thanks for the explanation. i thought it could be condensation but wasn't too sure so thanks or clarifying. and no my coolant seems to be ok, my levels are always constant and the car is not over heating. Once I have some time I will get a compression test done but Im guessing that it could be the rings, i doubt they have been changed...the car is sitting at 172,xxx miles anyway.
