Might be similar to what I'm experiencing. My EG6 is in the shop for similar issues (Happened today on my way out of town), and likely because of a faulty Main Relay. My symptoms involved driving normally on the road, then pressing the accelerator pedal to get no power...almost as though the engine is bogging down. Occasionally the symptoms will go away, but they always return. If not, it could be the fuel pump. Hope this helps a little.

What model is it? EX, DX, LX, Si?

Manual or automatic?

It "takes a few minutes" to pick up speed? That seems a bit excessive. Can you provide a better description of the problem?

What other maintenance have you done?

How long have you had the car?

Is the car automatic? Have you done any modifications or mechanic to it prior to the problem?

96k miles, had the Timing belt replaced recently? My first guess with lack of power is timing belt was replaced and the timing is not correct. You are right at the mileage for a replacement.

I would be making a note to change that very soon. Cool that you made it this long, but nothing to chance, if it snaps on that civic, you may as well plan on a motor.

Good luck.
