99 manual civic loses engine power
Hey all, I have a 99 civic dx hatchback with a manual transmission and recently I've been having power losses that have been getting worse. The problem first occurred in the second and third gear. Once I accelerate there becomes a certain point where the engine just stalls and there is no acceleration present. In order to regain power i must add more gas by pushing the pedal farther down and then all of a sudden the power just rushes in and it accelerates like normal. This problem has now escalated and is occurring near the end of my shift from first to second. I have replaced all spark plugs and have replaced the fuel filter seeing as a friend told me that it may just be something clogging the flow of fuel into the engine. I now see that it is a little more complicated than that. I have a feeling it has something to do with the transmission since the engine revs completely fine when disengaged, but once i drop the clutch this happens. Any help and suggestions as to a possible solution would be greatly appreciated.
ps - i talked to a mechanic friend of mine and he said there appears to be no slipping at all of the clutch, however there may be a broken bearing or something. i have no idea
thanks

Re: 99 manual civic loses engine power
The engine will rev pretty much normal when in neutral because there is no load on it.
Your problem is probably still be engine related. It could be an internal problem in the distributor, spark plug wires, cap, rotor, injectors, or a few sensors.
It could also be a clogged cat or dirty air filter too.
Change the cap, rotor and wires, and air filter.
