I have a 99 Honda civic ex with a d16y8 in it. The code on the motor tells me that it is from a 97 civic. I have been having problems starting it first thing in the morning. When I go out to start it, at first, it doesn't want to start. If I keep trying to start it, and just tap the gas a little bit, it will eventually start. But after it starts it kind of sputters like its going to shut off. When its doing that I hit the gas a little bit and after a few minutes it will stop sputtering. And then the rest of the day it will start and run perfectly fine. I can't figure out what the problem might be. Just last weekend I did a tune up on it and replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap, button, and module and coil in the distributor. But it is still not wanting to start in the morning. If any one could help me, that would be awesome!

 

CELS? Last oil change? Air filter change?

 

The Check engine light is on. I am getting ready to change the oil this weekend, I just bought it a lil over a week ago so Im not exactly positive when the last one was done, but i do know the guy I bought it from and he is pretty good at keeping up with stuff, so it shouldnt have been too long ago. I did change the air filter when i did the tune up.

i tried ... i took it to autozone and they hooked up the little hand held thing to my car and for some reason it wasnt powering on their handheld so we couldnt get any thing out of it.

 

Did you click on the link I gave you? Unless you can pull a code it will be real difficult to assist.

 

umm i just saw the link and i read what it said on it ... i didnt kno you could do that lol but i will go try that as soon as my boyfriend gets back w/ my car. Thank you ... and ill let ya kno what it end up sayin

 

thank you ... that link really helped. i had a friend of mine pull the code and it said it was the water temperature sensor. now my car is starting and running perfect! thanks for your help!
