wow im goin to use 104 when i goto the track..
how is 100 plus octane fuel made..

i know 87,89,93 and made by adding octanes and septanes or something. the more septanes the lower the grade. septanes combust more easily. so how do they make more than 100% octane?? the y must add something that is better than octane? anyone know

Octane is a rating. It's a measure of a fuel's resistance to detonation. It isn't an actual ingredient.

ive heared high octance only comes in leaded fuel??? anyways run enough of it and ull kill the o2 sensors and the cat. i would unplug the cat before running it

WHY!
your only running 6psi
you can get away with pump gas!

Actually, it is a particular chemical. C(8)H(18)

I'm a little hazy, but 104 octane is actually called C4 and 116 is C16, etc. The octane rating does mean the percent octane, but not really...that's why they switch over the the C-thingie, so you don't blow your mind thinking about 116% octane gas haha

I think somebody needs to the "The complete Idiots guide to internal comustion engines". Either that or its a trolls question looking for a flame war. Because somebod that askes that question doesn't know enough about engines to change the spark plugs much less build a tubo application. Anybody that knows anything about engines knows that 6 psi is not even 1/2 bar and that 12.5/1 compression engines ran on 100 octain fuel before engines had management systems and better designed combustion chambers. Or even really decent ignition systems.

Well it made a lot more power that is for sure.. and what so your telling me that it would be a bad idea to waste 7 bucks a gallon.. i think it is worth it.. and on a turbo .. who has a cat.. i just got a 2 in down pipe..

If you REALLY want to make more power, get a larger downpipe.

That is more worthwhile than running high octane.

There is NO WAY that made way more power unless you were running like 20 psi boost. 93 octane is more than you need tor 6 psi and racing gas is exessive octain and that would reduce your power as it burns slower creating less power. Race gas only helps if you are running enough boost to have detonation problems on a properly tuned set up. THis is common knowedge to those of us who know engines, and not by those of you who pump 93 octain into your Escorts (american ones) thinking that transforms your car into a fire breathing beast. Any fuel with higher octane than is needed to control detonation will make less power than the lowest octane fuel that does not detonate in your engine. NO 6psi boosted engine is going to benift from ANY racing fuel much less 126 octane.

Just to nit-pick...it actually could benefit, alot. The way it could is if he advanced the timing like a madman, maybe 6 degrees over stock? (I'm not sure how one could calculate the octane needed for advance on a particular engine)...anyway, $7 a gallon gas is going to be a waste, though it could be amusing. you could really crank the timing and you'd have SUPER throttle response and maybe get 10-15hp? but you'd have to drain your tank and spend $20 to go run around one day/night and then switch the timing back for the same gains that could be had by just turning up the boost 2psi, which is almost free with a homemade boost controller.

There was a post about making your own race gas (from Toluene sp?; a paint additive) does anyone know if this could mess anything up such as fuel lines/injectors/seals?

i think anything over 100 octane is leaded

shut the **** up.

octane wont give you power stupid, more boost will, and a higher octane means for safer boosting up high.

yep, higher octane fuel only helps reduce detonation. nothing else. the only reason you would see more power is because it reduced detonation. 126 level gas is NOT needed for a mere 6 psi! IMO thats rediculas. but hey you live, you learn.

The octane rating is how that particular blend of chemicals behaves relative to a concentration of pure octane.

Example - 93 octane gas has 93% of the detonation resistance that a pure(100%) concentration of octane would have. So a gas with an octane rating of 104 has 104% the resistance to detonation of a pure octane solution.

To fully realize the potential of your 126 octane fuel, you will probably have to add 5~8 degrees of ignition advance and 10~15lbs of boost. Otherwise, it's a waste of good fuel.

Don't waste your cash on it. Tell ya what just fill the tank 1/2 93 octane and 1/2 octane booster that you can pick up at Pep Boys. That's what I do...it shaves off like 1.0-1.5 seconds on my 1/4 mile times....
