Default So many questions about mounts

Okay so i bought the car with a ls swap, cable tranny, it's a 91 civic si and I'm pretty sure my mounts are not as perky as they should be. the crank pulley suddenly started rubbing the radius rod over bumps and while turning ect so it would seem like it is sagging a bit?

Anyways, I'm starting to look into mounts, and this will be my first time purchasing mounts. I'm on a budget of about $200-$250 and want to know, what is the difference between the ones that say they are billet vs. non billet?? vs. whatever else is out there. Also I'm seeing some that say they have harder polyurethane than others, how is that going to affect things? Do they last longer or perform better? It doesn't seem like a huge price jump.

Basically just looking for a good rundown/ explanation of what I should be looking for. I'll spend more if it's worth the value in lifespan, it's just a DD right now with the intention maintaining and keeping it in good condition .

I've found Innovative mounts that seem pretty affordable. Anyone using them vs. Hasports? Those are the two i've looked at and heard about. Thanks a ton!

Both mounts (Innovative and Hasport) are of good quality in my eyes. Hasport has the best CS and quality and for something like this I feel it's worth the extra money, my set has been through hell and back and still looks new. And any problem Hasport will fix it.

Have you thought about just replacing the bushings in the mounts to save money or hassle?

Honestly, I don't know what he had on there. T hey don't look like anything I've seen online. So at least for the first time I'd like to start fresh and know exactly what i have. I'm not down for cheaping out on parts or getting ebay anything, so if Hasports are worth being almost exactly two times as much, I'll save up. that just seems like a pretty big dollar mount to live up to so I'm leaning more towards the Innovatives right now.

Fair enough, if you can't ID the mounts, that's probably a good reason to remove them.

It's your car and with all the swaps I've done I've had 0 problems with either brand, but personally on my car and on my dime I went with hasports.

Best of luck on either pick

ha ha! Exactly, I want to know whats holding things together. Thanks for the input, it helps knowing you've had experience with both. I'll probably rock the Innovative mounts. I'm still wondering about the different options though, with the stiffness and what the difference between a billet mount and "regular" mount is.

Okay I've finally got some info on the stiffness factor, but i cannot find anywhere what is different about the billet mounts. Does anyone know?

Billet mounts are normally one solid piece of metal that is cut out on a cnc machine and then bushings are pressed into them. Non-billet are normally many pieces of steel that are cut out individually and welded together. I have used Innovatives mounts before with no problem but i am currently using some mounts that were made in a shop by venus autosports in Sacramento, Ca hella back in the day. They work and are really good mounts but they are about a quarter of an inch off on the trans mount. If you have a harder bushing in the mount it will take more abuse and last longer but you will feel a lot more vibration from the motor than you would with softer bushings but at the same time you compromise the life of the bushing. If i had to but mounts again i would go with the Innovative mounts again.

Awesome, thank you! tat answers what I was wanting to be clear on. So the billet ones will be better mounts, but man they are so much more expensive. i almost for sure can't afford the Hasport mounts so I'm glad to hear the innovative mounts are getting good feedback. I've got like two weeks two decide while I wait for tax refund to come.

Do all the maintenance (oil, MTF, ball joints, bushings, tires, etc) you can first then buy performance stuff.

I have, Ball joints, tie rods, tires, axles, camber kit etc etc all within the last 6 months. Brand new Tokico blues and springs, I'm also getting the master bushing kit from Energy Suspension along with the mounts with tax money. Anything I'm missing? It's a work in progress but I have certainly been putting the work into it.

Innovatives billet mounts are only 199.99 and they come and money colors to match the car as well as original black and silver.

It says 299 on the innovative website, that's the all three billet mounts for cable tranny. do you know where to get them for $199?? Any experience with avid mounts? Just found a full set on craigslist with b series axles hasport shift linkage for $350. Seems like a decent deal to me.

Oops your right i was looking at something else got confused. The billet are 299.99 and the non billet are 199.99. I have never seen the welds on the regular ones break before though. They are nice welds done with a machine so they are really strong. I have no experiece with Avid but they look nice and that is a good deal and that Hasport shift linkage will safe you a lot of time since you wont have to cut and weld an integra linkage. I have seen innovative mounts pop up on cl for under 100 all the time though.

Ha ha no worries. Yeah, I'm in nashville though. you're lucky to find more than an overpriced ebay fart can and some 22in rims here ha ha! My shift linkage is again, some unknown brand from the previous owner. i am working to be at a point where i know exactly what is on the car and i know its the good stuff. this deal with the axles, mounts and linkage might take my money if it goes through ha ha! Then I could sell the used parts for super cheap and still have money for gas.

but they shake your bones!! I daily drive my car on a b16a with hasports its got some good vibrations!

ha ha! yeah man, without a doubt just for their reputation, I would go with hasport if they just weren't going to eat up SO MUCH of my budget for things i want for the car.

Looks like I should be getting the AVID mounts. Thanks for the input, I'll try and put a mount swap writeup together later.

No problem expect it to feel every vibration from the motor. But hey look at the bright side at least you will always know when its running.

Whatever is on there now vibrates pretty good too so it shouldn't be a huge adjustment. Thanks for the heads up though, really looking forward to the extra piece of mind. I've heard there is a certain order that they are supposed to be tightened down, is this true? This will be my first time swapping mounts on my own, im sure I can find info on here for that too.

I have never heard of a precise way to do it. I know the mount on my tranny is always a pain in the *** to get on if i do the one on the back and the driver side mount first.

You might want to read this before buying Avid mounts. I dont know how true it is but still might be useful info.

Hmmm... Well heres to hoping it's not true cuz i bought them last night. They are brand new and still in the box. So you are saying to put the rear tranny mount on first then? I don't have an engine hoist, so is there a work around for that? I was thinking of jacking the car up, and putting support jacks under the engine then lowering the car, that way i can lower the engine in sort of? I can see a lot of room for error there though. Hoping to get them on today still, we will see. thanks for the heads up!
