Quick Cheap Fix for ITR AEM CAI, w/OUT doing the Bypass Valve, for when its flooding.
First off I WANT TO KEEP THE AEM CAI unless you give me a reason better than convenience against hydrolocking to get a comptech Ice box. I don't want to do the bypass valve simply because I put one on my old GSR CAI and I DEFINETLY felt a loss in trq and power. Plus I've heard from quite a few people it Basically cancels out the effects of cold air Because the bypass valve slightly disrupts the air flow and also heat from the engine bay seeps in through the bypass valve, doesn't matter how it loses power I can vouch for the fact it FEELS like you lose power.
Anyone have any alternatives that have worked for them, I'd prefer an alternative that wouldn't require the complete removal of the CAI, It would be great if I could just unhook the AEM CAI from the TB. So something like sticking a K&N filter straight up to the TB or something such as a cheap *** short ram (APC)JUST to get me out of the flooded areas safely.
Anyone ever done anything like this, whats worked for you?
cut it about a little bit before where it goes down and put one of those rubber things that hooks the intake to the t/b and when it is gonna rain take the bottom half out and put the filter on the other half (short ram intake)
I haven't tried it, but I heard to take a 2litter coke bottle, but the top off, and attach it to the end of the cai.
No such thing as a quick cheap fix. Take the 15 minutes and replace it with the stock intake.
I would just be careful when driving. It wasn't a real concern for me when I had my AEM CAI cause I am in Arizona. My honest advice is buy the Comptech Shitbox.
Well first off for those that don't know, i've hydrolocked my motor with the AEM CAI, and I live downtown where basically all streets lead to large puddles when it rains super hard or long, I'm just looking for a quick fix to get me out of a sticky situation like I was in when I hydrolocked my car. This would only be for emergency situations, I only encounter these kinds of flood conditions once in my freshman year( last year), I mean could I not go out and buy a cheap *** conal filter, take off the CAI, and put the filter on directly to the TB.
Well, let me tell you that my by-pass valve broke.
So I just removed the lower portion of the intake and turned it into a short ram by putting the filter on the top part. Doesn't take very long, but it's a fix until I can get what I need to turn it back into a CAI w/o the by-pass valve. Maybe you could do that during the rainy seasons.

When its flooding, pull over, take off the intake, and put the filter on the end of the TB. Problem solved.
Just carry and extra K&N filter. Pull off AEM and put on spare K&N. You can also just pull off the AEM and run without filter. I don't think it would hurt if you drive without filter past the flooded sections. You can put a grate over the throttle body so no big leaves get in.

quick fix it just disconnect the cai from the tb and leave it like that untill you're out of the flood area..... i doubt you're going to suck too much dirty air into engine
i just unhooked the CAI, pushed it down a little and stuck the filter right on the end of the throttle body, took me all of five minutes and never had any problems!!

Though it dosn't take me 15 minutes to change the intake back to stock and back. I did it for the third time again tonight and it took me 4 hours (i'm slow and stupid)
My front strut bar nuts are now rounded and i can't get them off... had to weave the pipe under the darn thing.. took forever but finally got there...
I got no idea what the hell i'm gonna do for when i need to take it off again (and remove the "unremovable" strut bar"
i never had to remove by strut bar, if your filter doesnt fit just go find some cheap small filter that will
